    I worked at Pikeville Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    I guess if you want someone else to tell you every detail about how you should do your then it would be pro. NOT FOR ME

    Cons

    Everything that can be imagined. First risk management are not there to find solutions to problems but to find scape goats. This is the reason many of the nurses do not report mistakes. The working conditions are based off of profit and if it makes money then your unit gets the staff instead of acuity and patient staff ratio. Yes the insurance is great but over 90% of the doctors in or affiliated with hospital would know what to do with someone who is well. If it was a good place to work then there wouldnt be a 25,000 sign on bonus and the chance to win a new car. Also PMC had some of the highest oay wages and still they can not get people to work for them. I know some travelers who canceled there contract and payed a penalty to leave that place.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of Walter May and all of his chosen ones or sell out to an organization that will treat their employees fair. Also the black building Walte May believes represents coal well it looks like death. Also for those who don't know the hospital use to be union years ago and instead of negotiating with the union they brought nurses from overseas to break the back of the union. Staph isnt the only thing dirty about this hospital.

    I worked at Pikeville Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    No cost health insurance for employees; very low cost to add family.

    If you happen to be related to anyone in administration you are assured to be get a job with a title and be overpaid for your lack of healthcare administrative experience.

    Cons

    Where to start? CEO=Bully; COO-Bully with a GED; VPs=puppets; Directors=scared
    Staff=terrified and underpaid.
    BEWARE if you are any form of management - they terminate without warning if you happen to have the ability of independent thought.
    DO NOT believe them when they say they want ideas from managers/directors/senior management from other facilities; they really don't.

    Advice to Management

    Sweep the entire C-Suite and bring in professionals that actually know how something about healthcare administration.
