    Systems over people

    Pros

Excellent technology and resources to complete your job, learn insurance adjusting and Xactimate. Working from home.

    Cons

Pilot doesn’t care about its employees but rather billing Allstate. Work only resolves around “compliance” and satisfying the directives from Allstate. Efficiency and productivity are not valued. If you are an adult with previous work experience, you likely understand time management during “normal business hours” and can accomplish work in 8-9 hours. People are hired off the street who have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Overall, there is extraordinarily little bottom-up communication but rather top-down orders dictating schedules. Secrecy, vague platitudes, and generic non-answers are the norm from management to keep all adjusters in the dark about how decisions are made. Modest raises are only given at the 6 month and 1-year milestones. Anyone still working for Pilot 5+ years likely remains only due to the bonus “scheme” which pays based off actual days worked, your segment “tier” and dependent upon how many people Pilot brings in to fulfill the Allstate contract. Excluding advances via nepotism (which is rampant) absolutely no other raises or COLA increases exist. Due to the benevolence of Pilot, adjusters are offered up to 10 days unpaid time off per quarter (40 days per year). There is no PTO or sick leave; adjusters often are forced to work holidays without the overtime rate. Pilot does not reimburse adjusting licenses regardless of tenure. “Storm pay” is woefully inadequate during CAT events compared to other adjusting firms. Work/life balance is not a priority of Pilot. Spouses, children and soon to be ex’s also work here since Pilot is indeed a family company. Your personal relationships and health will likely suffer due to the excessive days, hours and micromanagement. Because Pilot is beholden to the almighty Allstate contract, Pilot upper management constantly threatens your job during busy and slow times. Few claims coming in? Better make your files perfect or else you will be released. Slammed with an unreasonable number of claims and/or ridiculous nitpicking about "compliance"? Pilot threatens to release you. More stress occurs from the constant threat of being fired than from working claims themselves. Fear and intimidation are the norm.

    Pros

They really take the time to make sure you know what they expect you to do, and if there's any sudden changes you are the first to know about them. Everyone is friendly and everyone works together as a team.

    Cons

12 hour day 7 day weeks for months on end are common! I would say that this is due to understaffing, but the moment it slows down they lay people off, so the crunch is the culture there.
