I worked at Pine Cove full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everybody who works at Pine Cove has an energy and attitude that never dies. It is a truly motivating and spiritually challenging, yet fulfilling, environment to be in.

    Cons

There were quite a few counselors who decided to quit during my summer at the Timbers, leaving us fairly short staffed. This caused for a heavier workload and fewer "work crew" weeks. Pine COve typically expects far more out of their employees than other Christian Summer Camps (Ozark, Kanakuk....) but they surround you with people and resources to help you handle it.

    Advice to Management

Allow more honestly and openness when the staff is discussing matters internally. There is a constant pressure of perfection that can wear down on the people who internalize what they are feeling.

    Pros

Outstanding commitment to ethics and faith. They are so great with the way that they treat employees--with discipline and also with encouragement and positivity. They challenge me to be better every day. This is the best company to have worked for!

    Cons

I can't think of any cons about this place. Pine Cove really is its own culture, which is unmatched anywhere else!

    Advice to Management

The only advice that I would give management would be to pay a little higher for counselors that volunteer so much of their time, energy, and effort. For many of the counselors, we are college students with loans, but want to spend time doing ministry at camp and get paid not much...

  3. "Pine Cove is a great place where students who love Jesus submit their summers to be a servant."

I worked at Pine Cove as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great staff filled with people who want to become more like Christ.
    Great leadership team.
Teaches about serving people without recognition.
Meals and housing are provided while getting payed bi-weekly.
Helps kids who are dealing with the pressures of today's society.
Requires hard work and teaches about dependence on the Lord.
Conscious of people with gluten free allergies.

    Cons

Texas is hot during the summer!
Food can be pretty "camp-like," not the best for dieters.
As a staffer, you only get one evening off from working camp per week.

    Cons

The leadership tends to play favorites and the days are exhausting.

I worked at Pine Cove full-time

    Pros

The staff is very willing to invest in their employees.
I have gotten many references out of this job, and it was a life-changing summer.

    Cons

It was a very cliquey and strict environment.
The pay is awful, so it's best to look at it as more of a mission trip than a job.

    Advice to Management

The senior staff needs to treat employees more like adults than kids that need to be managed.

I worked at Pine Cove as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great, uplifting atmosphere with encouraging co-workers. The staff trains you well and you feel welcome into the community/pine cove family. The welcoming week/training prepares you for the summer ahead.

    Cons

The high paced atmosphere can get exhausting, but that is sort of expected with the nature of working at a summer camp.

    Pros

An edifying work environment where you'll be bound to grow.

    Cons

    Lack of encouragement from leadership.

    Advice to Management

Lead by serving instead of glorifying your position.
