I worked at Pine Cove part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They provided a lot of structure and guidance to help you be the best camp counselor you can be. All of their training and materials were really well thought out and biblical, and made it feel like we could handle any situation that arose. Great leadership, solid principles. I had a wonderful summer there with loads of fun and would've loved to have gone back for round 2. It's true that you are "on" 24/6, so it is exhausting and you'll be isolated from happenings in the outside world, but I never saw that as a con, just as a maximization of what you can do with your life when you're not distracted.

    Cons

The nature of the camp is such that the campers are not significantly diverse - the cost of one week is high. They do have scholarships available, so there's some opportunity for kids who couldn't otherwise afford it, but as a counselor the homogeneity was sometimes striking. I also had some frustration that my salary for 5 weeks was less than what 1 camper paid for 1 week.

    Advice to Management

Continue seeking out high quality college students and ways to make sure you're brining in campers from all walks of life. Make sure counselor compensation is fair.

    Pros

By far, one of the best jobs I have ever had! This job will definitely change your life for the better! Great place, great organization.

    Cons

Obviously people are going to complain about the pay, but you do this job not for the pay, but to possibly change lives. That is better pay than most jobs out there.

    Advice to Management

Keep up doing what you are doing. Pine Cove is a fantastic place that changes lives. Absolutely love this place.

I worked at Pine Cove full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pine Cove was a wonderful way to share Christ with families and definitely stressed a solid work-ethic and spiritual growth. The other staffers were fun and always willing to help you out.

    Cons

Sometimes, it can be a bit physically, mentally, and emotionally draining, but that's part of the experience.

    Pros

    Personal growth
    Awesome relationships with coworkers
    Fun, welcoming work environment
    Great room & board provided
Staff and leadership are wonderful people

    Cons

You aren't making a lot of money - but it's a summer job. This isn't the place to work if you are expecting to make a lot.
Very little time off (one day a week).

    Pros

You will grow a ton in such a short amount of time. Helping camper in their walk with God is priceless. The leadership is very attentive and accessible. Their program is very strict which allows you to be properly prepared for all situations. SO MUCH FUN!!! I would recommend.

    Cons

The pay is not good. You will not even make $200 a week for being on the clock 24/hr a day 6 days a week. Compared to many camps Pine Cove is on the lower end of the pay scale. They also offer less time off than most camps. Most people do not do it for the money however. Staff can be cliquey at times.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay. Your staff works HARD!
