long hours, plenty of work to do,

    Advice to Management

I worked at Pine River Capital Management full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Core group of engaged, dedicated employees and partners; good salary and benefits; productive mix of personalities; free lunch.

    Cons

Series of ill-advised hires and deviation from core values led to a rapid decline; morale is low, key staff either let go or jumped ship; remaining employees are treated like kindergarteners with "incentives" like pizza reward for reaching goals.

I worked at Pine River Capital Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

some partners are among the smartest people on the street; great leverage in negotiation with PB thanks to (still relatively) large AUM - can't do that with smaller funds. ok culture. good benefits.

    Cons

questionable hiring decision process; ridiculously large IT and other back office teams that eat up most if not all of the profits; desks have to cover all sorts of costs irrelevant with their trading.

    Advice to Management

fire half of the IT guys along with CTO and outsource those tasks to outside providers. use the saved cost to hire more people that can generate P&L.

I worked at Pine River Capital Management full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

most people were pleasant and friendly to work with and in general managers made you feel like they cared about you and not just the quality of your work

    Cons

Instability inherent in hedge fund world means jobs can get cut at any minute and there are always coworkers that are unhappy, scared, or feel that they are under-appreciated.

I worked at Pine River Capital Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of my colleagues were great, made some lasting friends here. Decent benefits, pretty generous PTO, free lunch in NY.

    Cons

No room for growth in NY, despite this being emphasized in my interviews. Management is incompetent, no transparency about company's direction. In the past year, there has been a significant downturn in company morale, and that isn't just because of the layoffs. PRCM prides itself on its "Midwestern roots," but that is a sham. Don't expect your loyalty to be repaid here.

    Pros

The employees are very committed to the company's success.

    Cons

They tend to staff on the lean side. It is normal to work evenings and weekends

I have been working at Pine River Capital Management full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In previous years, great compensation. Autonomy in the company with opportunities for team work. Provides food and beverages for all employees.

    Cons

Management does not have a direction or long-term goal for the firm nor is there any strong and consistent leadership. Compensation is not as generous as in previous years. Long hours. Stressful work environment.

I have been working at Pine River Capital Management (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great salary and excellent benefit package

    Cons

Environment is rapidly changing, people with no experience and skills are being promoted to a management level, most people are feeling less appreciated and valued. There is no transparency and can be let go any minute

    Advice to Management

Go back to the values that made the company great and one of the best places to work

I have been working at Pine River Capital Management (More than a year)

    Pros

Very transparently run, strong leadership at the top, strong focus on ethics

    Cons

The performance of PR is largely driven by a very few PMs. If you are not working directly with one of the main P&L drivers of the firm, things can get stale very quickly. I think this is endemic to many hedge funds; there are one or two people that generate the alpha, most everyone else is staff. If you are ambitious, then this is likely not a good place for you.
