I worked at Pinellas County School District (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a substitute you can pick your own hours/days, there's always schools available who need subs, and the minimum is only 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays every month, so this is great if you are interning and just need a few days here and there.

    Cons

You must have strong classroom management skills. This does not have much to do with the employer, just part of the job itself.

    Advice to Management

Train people who do not have a background in education more.

I have been working at Pinellas County School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay and have a lot of time off. There no where anyone could work on any job with that amount of time off.

    Cons

There are disrespectful students and the district don't address and it makes it very difficult for drivers.

    Advice to Management

Deal with kids and they would see a retention of drivers

    Pros

    Cons

I have been working at Pinellas County School District full-time

    Pros

Working hours and time off during holidays. Receipt of full time equivalent salary whilst working for ten months per year when compared with non-educational full-time jobs. Can work with progressive, like-minded educators if you are lucky and find the right school and right 'fit' colleagues within a school. Autonomy within own classroom. Making an impact and seeing growth in students. Extending own experiences by working with people from all sectors of society.

    Cons

Huge variance in quality of school leadership teams. Lesson planning outside contracted hours. Achievement gap between north/south county schools. Limited options for advancement beyond classroom teaching. Limited opportunities to increase income. Salary scale increases are minimal, year-on-year.
