-Above average benefits (Extended Health Benefits, Transportation reimbursement, free refreshments)
-Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed in this company easily since this is a fairly small company so everything is pretty transparent .

    -there is overtime

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Piranha Games full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At least it says on your Résumé you have been employed in your filed.

    Cons

Poor judgment and inability to get the projects where they need to be.
Lack of competent management expertise in their so called fields.
Poor Planning and design choices forces frustration and tension in the workplace.
Multiple projects thinning out development on main project.
Friendly atmosphere soon brakes, as deadlines cannot be made.

    Advice to Management

Stop development... Sit, Think, take a Breath and make a real plan for once.
Actual look at and in-house test features before even announcing poorly thought out plans.
Maybe stop forcing your bad decisions on the project and I don't know, maybe talk to real people about the projects path and not people you hire in your community to be yes men.

I have been working at Piranha Games full-time

    Pros

The bosses are approachable and genuinely care about the employees. They are passionate about the product and work hard to make it the best it can be.

For the most part, we are relatively insulated from the soul crushing work/life balance issues that are typical of the industry.

The comparatively small size of the company means that if you want them to, your ideas and work can really make a meaningful impact on the product.

    Cons

There's a fine line between too much structure and not enough, and I think that oftentimes we find ourselves on the side of not enough. Consequently, self motivation will get you a long way.

    Advice to Management

Continue to not lose sight of the things that do make it special to be a part of this company.

I have been working at Piranha Games full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - People who work here are smart and awesome
    - Pretty good benefits like fully stocked kitchen & transit coverage
    - You get paid time-off over the holidays
    - They have been able to keep the work and staff quality high.
    - They keep staff who are productive and wants to be here

    Cons

    - could use more communication
    - There were some stragglers who would come in late and put in minimal effort. There are still some, which is frustrating to see, but most of them have left.
    - more team bonding events (not just big company events)
    - usually its 40 hours week easy but in the last 2 years its been OT, OT, OT towards end of the year.. spread it out!

    Advice to Management

    - deadlines are pretty tight. Try not to jam things into patch last minute
    - do a bit more pre planning and communicate more.

I have been working at Piranha Games (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    • Been around and profitable for a long time
    • Each game they make is better than the last one
    • Almost all staff are open to ideas (eventually)
    • Generally decent production practices, which are getting better
    • Owners are really passionate about their product
    • Great work/life balance in the last few years

    Cons

    • Some staff need a lot of prodding to be open to ideas, and often nobody prods.
    • Management often has communication issues, sometimes causing huge problems
    • Employees need to be self-starters to get any job satisfaction (you won't be fired, just bored)
    • Crunch time was a big problem in the past

    Advice to Management

Upper management should check up on senior staff more often. Discuss the product, their current job, and their future with the company.

I have been working at Piranha Games full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great team of friendly and talented artists, engineers and designers. Well stocked kitchen.

    Cons

Employees have been leaving in droves, many of them key elements in the critically diminished team, because HR and management consistently fail to do their job and nurture the talented and dedicated staff. You'll hear the same story from many ex-employees.

Right now only the momentum of past achievements keeps the place going.

    Advice to Management

Pointless to give advice, as their hubris precludes them from listening or learning from their appalling mistakes.

I worked at Piranha Games full-time

    Pros

There are very many intelligent, talented and hard working people employed at Piranha Games who you can learn a lot from.

    Cons

The company values are "Creativity, Passion and Humility." It's sad that people in charge contradict their own set of values. They stifle creativity by shooting down ideas because their egos get in the way, effectively killing any passion for the work. I have never ever seen management show any kind of humility, just a lot of bitterness and arrogance.

    Advice to Management

Trust and respect the great people that you have working for you and get rid of terrible, selfish leads who care more about power than producing an amazing product.

    - They provide free meal for every employee.
    - First or last Friday of the month, they have beers in the office.

    Cons

    - People there have no idea of what they're doing
