I have been working at Pixar Animation Studios full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing culture, wonderful people, and exciting projects that create impact and tug on your heart strings.

    Cons

Cost of living in the Bay Area is a challenge for most employees, especially since compensation is less than one might get at other Studios or in the Tech sector.

    Advice to Management

more opportunities are needed for those who plateau in terms of career advancement, too few positions available towards the top and a lack of developing internal talent for the long run.

    Pros

Excellent track record. Premiere creative talent. A beautiful Studio. Lunch speakers, excellent gym, swimming pool, basketball court. Good cafe, nice employees. Steady employment.

    Cons

Studio leadership seems at odds with itself. The politics and motivations are difficult to figure out. Crew morale can suffer as a result.

    Advice to Management

    Not at this time.

    Pros

    - some of the most brilliant minds working in R&D and animation
    - some free swag and box office kickbacks
    - great learning opportunities

    Cons

    - isolated from the rest of the industry
    - braintrust, HR and CEOs are VERY SHADY. you will make friends but not with them.
    - wage fixing (as we have all heard)
    - very cult-like culture.
    - cars movies
    - people just disappear and are never heard from again. very creepy.
    - very dangerous town. do not walk alone at night.

    Advice to Management

you guys scare me. all the corrupt wage fixing and boy's club at the top, very disturbing.

I have been working at Pixar Animation Studios full-time

    Pros

Work with a team of very creative people where kindness and work/life balance is valued highly. Everyone makes each other more creative. Fun atmosphere. Great Campus. Great team spirit. Great track record of making great films.

    Cons

The vision for the company is pretty limited to feature films. They are working on too many sequels rather than new ideas.

    Advice to Management

Bring in management consultants to give you an objective view of how effectively your Exec team is working. But more importantly, listen to what they say.

I have been working at Pixar Animation Studios full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great people
    High quality product
Delicious food (not free but partially subsidized)
Plenty of fitness amenities (e.g. pool, gym, classes, wellness allowance)
    Various classes
    Educational allowance
    Reference library
    Fun internal events

    Cons

    Pay is low
    Production staff feel undervalued
    Not much room for growth
Can feel stifling without growth opportunities
Quality has recently suffered in order to churn out more movies

    Advice to Management

Stop aiming to be average in terms of pay (which represents value) when you're trying to create films that aren't just average. Show your employees (especially production staff) that you value them by paying them more.

I have been working at Pixar Animation Studios full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Discounts and company culture. Free cereal and fruit. Film bonuses. Onsite gym and exercise classes. Very nice and fun company campus. Anniversary awards for 10, 20, 25, & 30 years of service.

    Cons

401k match is very low for a successful company. No stock options. No retirement plan. Company doesn't offer paid time off to perform community service.

    Advice to Management

Re-implement stock grants to all employees. Help all employees feel a sense of ownership in the success of the company. It would be great if Pixar offered paid time off for community service.

I have been working at Pixar Animation Studios full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People are great. Friendly, reliable, and dependable. Hours are reasonable (your mileage may vary), yes people complain about politics, but they are avoidable if you're an apolitical person. Generally great work culture, fantastic amenities and facilities, at times feels like you're living in a resort. Cafe and cafe staff are superb.

    Cons

Promotion is difficult and leadership positions are sparse, requires 5-10 years seniority for promotion. Pay is decent but a little low compared to the rest of tech industry.
