I worked at Plains All American Pipeline full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are nice people - company wide. Can't say enough nice things about them.
    Drama is minimal and discouraged.
Previous management was very balance of life oriented, that may change with the new management.

    Cons

The new management is short term oriented.
The layoffs are throwing out experienced personnel to reduce the overall average age of the workforce - this is troubling.
Many management actions taken recently strongly appear to be preparing the company to be sold and unconcerned about long term damage for short term gains.
    Nepotism runs deep.
Some people are too vocal about their politics.

    Advice to Management

Layoffs have depleted the knowledge base and have cut too deeply.
Managers should be required to have their reports attend training and advance their skill set, not just company sponsored training on MS Office but real career enhancing skills.
The culture of the company is what sets it apart from nearly all other companies, and it is in jeopardy as a direct result of the new management. People are scared and demoralized.
    Nepotism should be eliminated.

I worked at Plains All American Pipeline as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

They paid a decent salary and always paid on time. We had a weekly meeting with them which kept everyone on the same page. I was always treated with the utmost respect by all their employees.

    Cons

They laid off way too early and left a skeleton crew too much work to do!

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Great company. Great people. A company that cares about their employees. The office closes on national holidays and is flexible with out-of-office appointments.

    Cons

You need to be a self-starter. Management wants you to be able to learn quickly. These aren't all necessarily cons but you need to be able to take initiative to earn coworker's trust.

    Advice to Management

Keep being a great company. You have helped many people become successful professionals whether it be at Plains or elsewhere.

    Pros

Decent schedule with 12 hr shifts.

    Cons

Over worked and under paid! Safety is over looked a lot in order to meet production goals of rail yard.

    Advice to Management

Need more man power. Better training for safety. The only reason. I would recommend this job to a friend due to the fact that it's recession proof.

I have been working at Plains All American Pipeline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very proactive in safety, average benefits, good outlook. Invest in their workers. Growing for the future and want to keep their staff and not downsize in downturns

    Cons

Below average pay, bad communication, little to no human resources, growing too fast and forgetting to bring their current and established work staff along with them. Take care of the new guys/ forgetting about the veterans. No career advancement, and little help in the field

    Advice to Management

Take care of the veteran employees so as not to lose them to other companies. Seem to train guys up only to have them jump ship to other companies because of much better compensation and more often than not the grass has been greener
