I worked at Planet Beach part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good employee perks, learn a lot about beauty and wellness, depending on the owner will determine your success and the tone of your environment. Transferrable job (if needed).

    Cons

I used to work at Planet Beach Riverbend, first I was a member then employee and I have never in my life been so mistreated, disregarded, lied to and put into a financial strain. I would not recommend anyone to use that spa unless there is new ownership. The number of members and guest that never return, cancel memberships or asked to transfer to another home spa should speak volumes.

    I worked at Planet Beach

    Pros

Very easy job. Nice customers. Flexible for school schedule. Friendly co-workers made the job tolerable.

    Cons

Very little incentive to sell products or get new customers. Ending memberships was very sketchy, a lot of people who don't know they're still getting charged by planet beach even though they tried to cancel several times.

I have been working at Planet Beach full-time for less than a year

    Pros

using the free services however, owner was charging $10 to get a spray tan and $5 for the moisturizer.

    Cons

no sick days or vacation days ,no benefits. memberships are hard to sell and then lots of people cancel every month. If you sell a membership and they cancel before the next commission check they wont pay you the commission so they keep the enrollment and the first payment and you get nothing. most of the employees aren't business minded hard working people. they are cheap help and if you don"t make the high sales goals the owners will fire you. They fired and forced several people out of jobs. Our store was also breaking franchise rules operating another scam business inside Planet Beach .Unethical business practices!

I have been working at Planet Beach part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Hours are flexible. You have room for commission. You can use all the services for free. Interview process is very straightforward (tell me about yourself, what is your experience, what is your availability, have you worked with any other tanning facilities previously) and some behavioral questions (how would you settle issues/problems with fellow employees).

    Cons

Equipment tends to be messed up pretty frequently, so you have to deal with customer complaints and dissatisfaction. Management makes promises of fixing a machine, buying more products, coming by to grab excess junk in the back, fixing an account or your hours, etc. but it never gets done. You have to keep checking in to make sure they remember something needs to be done, but it still never gets done or gets done 3 months later. Can be very frustrating. The commission is very low. Employees should receive more compensation for the memberships they sell.

I have been working at Planet Beach

    Pros

Fun at first. Get to learn the basics of retail sales and customer service which is helpful in pursuing other options. Get to use services in salon for free. Pay isn't horrible in "busy season." Can make commission and bonuses if meeting goals and doing your marketing. It's not hard. You get to meet lots of people and will become comfortable talking to people. You get awesome discounts on products.

    Cons

If you're not a manager, you don't work mornings. There's only about 3 people that will work the salon year round, so if you're sick or have a conflict with work you're pretty much screwed. The owner literally threatens to fire everyone 5 times a month. They give you unrealistic goals to meet during slower months, and then get angry when you can't meet them. Everyone is expected to do a ridiculous amount of outside marketing on personal time, if you don't do your marketing or can't prove you did it you don't get your commission. It's very stressful with your manager calling and texting you all day everyday, which is unprofessional BUT most of the employees are very close because there's only a few of us. If the salon gets over-staffed, then you really have to worry about getting fired for something stupid. When trying to meet goals, you have to push products on customers really hard. They normally arent interested. Also, you have to sell so many memberships a month, but no matter how much work you did on a membership, if the person comes when another consultant is working YOU GET NO CREDIT FOR ALL THE TIME YOU APPARENTLY WASTED ON THE CUSTOMER. After the salon gets rid of all the seasonal people your hours will probably decrease, so line up another job. Plus that other job will come in handy on the day your incompetent coworkers decide to push you over the edge. If you think working here will be easy, it isn't. The goals and pressure of meeting them is always over your head.
