I worked at Planned Parenthood full-time

    Pros

I worked for the Rocky Mountains affiliate (Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico). Overall it was a decent place to work. The mission is great, most of my coworkers were passionate and inspired people. I felt like I was making a difference.

    Cons

The structure of the org makes it difficult to communicate across departments and with supervisors. The pay is incredibly lousy, especially for health center assistants who work on the front line. They don't even make $15 an hour. Management over all does not care about their employees or treat employees very well.

    Advice to Management

Start caring about individual employees. The CEO should learn people's names. Pay people a living wage.

I have been working at Planned Parenthood full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working for the betterment of women, minorities and underserved populations.

    Cons

The political climate now can be tumultuous.

    Advice to Management

Create better opportunities for support staff that aren't providers to advance and have better earning potential as an organization that is mostly ran by women.

I have been working at Planned Parenthood full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly, open atmosphere with a diverse and committed team. Very good benefits with no waiting time for health benefits at national headquarters.

    Cons

Stressful working environment because of opposition Planned Parenthood faces, particularly with a Republican-led government. Added stress in light of layoffs that have occurred. Some senior leaders have higher budgets than others and are more accommodating to their staff than other leaders. Job grading system is off kilter and needs work.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to using the skill set of existing employees instead of being quick to enlist consultants who charge three times as much as your employees.
