I worked at Planned Parenthood full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Wonderful team, great people to work with.

    Cons

Upper management and directors do not listen to feedback that the staff gives about patient volume, scheduling, creating an overwhelming work environment where everyone is constantly burned out, and stressed out. Absolutely no work/life balance, hours are long and inconsistent and it's very unlikely that you get a regular schedule. PTO requests are due 6 months ahead of time making it nearly impossible to take time... off, and even if you do get your requests in on time there's no guarantee it will be approved if there is no coverage for your shift. The culture is to pick up shifts, work overtime, reduce or entirely skip breaks, stay late, and if you don't do that you're shamed or reprimanded by management. People constantly call in sick because they're exhausted and that leads to staff shortages, increased stress, and often management and staff declines to block schedules and reduce patient volume to accommodate. Ultimately there is extremely high turnover, which means there is almost always someone new training and that also puts strain on the work. Always lots of pressure from above to work faster and with fewer mistakes while piling more and more tasks and responsibilities -- most of which are tedious and unnecessary -- as well as stuffing the schedule with more and more patients. Staff would speak up against this and advocate against it, and management would ignore the feedback only to sometimes dial things back months later, but by that time many staff had already left.

    Advice to Management

All of the changes that are supposedly going to increase patient access are actually detrimental to the patient experience because the staff are strung out, they're exhausted, they're rushing through appointments, asking unnecessary questions, and making more and more mistakes which creates double work. It seems like the idea is that there will always be a pool of people who are excited and interested in working at... an organization that has so much name recognition, so it doesn't matter if there is such high turnover because more people will come it. It's unsustainable, it's bad for staff and for patients, and ultimately it is the patients and the organization that will suffer.

    Pros

Some really great people work here. Camaraderie and teamwork. Great mission.

I worked at Planned Parenthood full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Mostly great people to work with, the culture is pretty good too.

    Cons

Procedures are never followed making the work ten times more difficult to be completed and completed in the short amount of time it needs to be completed in. Everything is last minute even when those handing out tasks have known for days.

    Advice to Management

Create/update policies and procedures and stick to them. Revise as necessary, but remember to keep your people in the loop.
