Hi there! I interview for a position with a planned Parenthood this week for a role as Special Events Manager to oversee their fundraising department. Because most of my work and experience has been in freelance. I’m having a hard time figuring out what my work experience translates to in a Salary position. Therefore, I wonder what my base pay should be. Does anyone have any experience in the role?

    Pros

The staff at this workplace were (mostly) incredible, dedicated, kind and hardworking.

    Cons

Very difficult reckoning a vision for a radical future and management with limited imagination and empathy.

Unfortunate that Arizonans are stuck with this affiliate.

    Pros

The pay is competitive. Planned Parenthood facilities are managed under an affiliate system. So if you're not in Arizona it could be much better.

    Cons

There is a good deal of secrecy and cronyism among the upper management in the Arizona affiliate. I worked there for less than 2 years. In that time, I had 3 different supervisors. The turnover among upper management is scarily high. People disappear from the company in groups as high as 5 employees at a time. There is little explanation about turnover or plans for the company. It is generally a stressful job as it is due to the political climate in AZ. Add the items I've described above and it's a recipe for misery.

Hudson Peconic - Horrible Work Environment

Jul 8, 2022 - Community Health Educator in Smithtown, NY

    Pros

The other educators I worked with are some of the best people in the world who truly care about the work they do. I loved being able to connect with students and answer their questions and learn with them.

    Cons

I was absolutely miserable here. All of our lesson plans are scripts with very little flexibility and we had to absolutely beg to edit them. Senior management was terrible with the organization being super hierarchical and micromanaged everything we did. My supervisor gave us email templates with a literal script because our judgement wasn't trusted. They overall were super controlling and we had little freedom. Our affiliate was super performative and pretended to care about racism, but whenever we had ideas and opportunities to want to make our department better, we were shut down. Staff shouldn't be getting paid $40k when the CEO makes over $300k. Merit wages are offered every year and are horribly low.

    Pros

Mission driven work and I gained a lot of experience, quickly

    Cons

Overworked with long hours and little pay. Horrible management that was rarely present so that important drugs and devices were running out often. High wait times because of understaffing. An overall disappointment to the patients who trust in their care.

Disappointing. Management is not interested in changing what doesn’t work for operations.

Jul 15, 2021 - Clinician in Hartford, CT
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    Provide care to underserved populations

    Cons

Not a culturally diverse staff. Upper management has no clue about what goes on in the clinics and they are not interested in knowing. They are only concerned about profits. Bandaid care is provided to patients due to time constraints of visits (10 min visits). Mistakes are treated as punitive and not used as teachable moments regardless of severity; which doesn’t foster learning staff development, team building or quality improvement.

    Nope

Aug 9, 2022 - Health Care Assistant in New York, NY

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Working for a trusted name in healthcare, union, working in a robust multiservice clinic.

    Cons

Staff are underpaid and overworked. Staffing seems to be kept lean on purpose, in order to save money while medical assistants and providers scramble to cover intense patient loads. Upper management hates the union and will consider you hostile for being part of it. Many union benefits like childcare assistance have not actually been given to any employees. Staff overturn is high because burning people out is the standard. This organization knew Roe would fall and did very little to prepare their clinics for it. Some staff also act incredibly unprofessionally towards patients and face no repercussions. Though upper management frequently act in the interests of their egos first, and staff and patients last. All of this is not even touching the fact that while Planned Parenthood is invested in its image of being progressive, the people who are most overworked and underpaid in the organization are women of color.

    Pros

promotes a woman's right to choose, committed to providing services to all women regardless of income.

    Cons

Senior Management team frequently changes Management Team letting them know that they want change in the organization and welcome their input. If management doesn't propose what Senior Leadership team wants to hear then not considered a productive and valued employee.
