I have been working at Plante Moran full-time

    Pros

Take it if the only offer you get.
Some mediocre middle management and partners.

    Cons

As a first year, your pay is on par with Big 4. It falls further behind each year. It is typically $30k less by the time you reach manager. Exit ops are mediocre in MI, poor in OH & IL, and horrible in all other states. Consider switching to Big 4 ASAP if you start work here. Work life balance is slightly better than Big 4 during busy season but slightly worse than Big 4 off-season. Public accounting (audit and tax) are such that under 10% of ppl enjoy their jobs. Even if you love your job, it can get depressing since few of your colleagues will. Also, it is becoming more compliance oriented, so it doesn't set you up for a front office job (only back office exit ops).

    Advice to Management

This firm has serious downsides compared to Big 4. Management hypes up the firm like a cult even though the work is uninspiring and most ppl dislike their jobs.

    Pros

Great culture and great people, and open door policy. Great place to start career.

    Cons

Clients are smaller, not real opportunity to audit a public company. Compensation not great for the amount of hours.

    Advice to Management

Have more transparency in compensation and bonus structure.

I worked at Plante Moran (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture and commitment to staff development. Work with very intelligent professionals. Opportunities to work see different types of engagements. Hours during busy season are not as bad as other public accounting firms. The partners are very hands on and really contribute to the professional development. Competitive pay coming out of college

    Cons

Regional public accounting firm. Limited service line offerings, however, it appears the firm is expanding to other offerings.
