I worked at Plantronics as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to work new & exciting products. Many of which are above and beyond what Beats & Bose are producing - in terms of sound quality, design & cost.

The company offers a great deal of flexibility, as far as being able to work from home. There is also a full-service cafeteria and on-site gym (for full-time employees only).

    Cons

The company tells a great story about the importance of culture in the workplace, however Plantronics isn't practicing what it preaches. "Blame Culture" is prevalent.

Many of the managers I've met are clearly threatened by the abilities of their new, and younger, direct reports.

Middle management controls all communications up to the leadership team. In my experience, individual contributors seldom receive recognition for going above and beyond. Much of the recognition is in the form of corrective feedback.

    Advice to Management

Empower & enable individual contributors to shine. When they do, so do you.

    I worked at Plantronics full-time

    Pros

Great place to work if you don't want to work hard.

    Cons

It's easy to get bored. Work is not challenging.

    Advice to Management

Set more aggressive goals. Hire leadership that will challenge status quo.

I worked at Plantronics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have good benefits and the people who aren't management are really great. They have been around for along time and they do good innthe community.

    Cons

When I first started, Plantronics was a great company to work for but then management changed and it got really bad. The products went downhill and they started outsourcing jobs to Mexico. They laid off about 200 people last year.

    Advice to Management

Bring jobs back to Santa Cruz and bring focus bwck to good customer service and good products. It's sad to see a company that has been around for so long go so down hill.

I worked at Plantronics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good CEO. The products are excellent and they are aware they have to be more than just a headset company.

    Cons

In a death struggle with cheap but adequate competition from jabra and China Most stressful place I ever worked, constantly laying off people to move work to Mexico and try to drive down costs, lower salaries than the valley only 20 miles away.

    Advice to Management

If you want to drive people like you do, then you need to pay the same rate as the valley or just move it all to Mexico, your're a Mexican company in all but name now anyway.

I worked at Plantronics full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible working, decent benefits, majority of associates are really good people.

    Cons

Salary not competitive with rest of Bay Area; C-level management is out of touch; No interest in supporting consumer business.

    Advice to Management

Either invest (and not with just dollars) in your consumer line, or cut it loose.

I worked at Plantronics (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice culture, interns get opportunities to meet senior management, work on complex projects. Internship program was very well designed.

    Cons

Very low conversion ratio from intern to full-time so if you are looking for full-time opportunities its really tough as the company hires only if there is any open position

    Pros

-location, nice to drive to the beach for lunch
    -good discounts on products
    -good people to work with

    Cons

-unclear management goals (top-down communication is poor)
    -ever changing priorities
    -confusing bonus structure
    -mistrust among employees toward management

    Advice to Management

Better communication with the entire organization would be helpful. Product road maps and sharing of launch schedule would help everyone do their job better and feel as if they have a personal stake in what they are doing. A clearer bonus structure would help with the mistrust created between employees and managers. Taking the bonuses away would be better that what seems like this double talk we get.

I have been working at Plantronics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The environment looks great, walking to any office of Plantronics does show you they have invested in creating a nice and functional office space. Smarter Working if your manager allows it helps creating a flexible working week that is necessary with the heavy workload of global functions. So far the products Plantronics has manufactured are nice, functional and still beat the competition.

    Cons

European Leadership is outdated, their vision and mentality doesn't align with the work force and even as the company is moving into a global way of working the so named directors in Hoofddorp try to run their own principles. Same counts for HR who unfortunately isn't supporting company policies but rather personal opining and inconsistencies as it comes to equal treatment of employees. Due to restructures and layoffs the workload is rapidly increasing for various employees resulting in a offset in work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Senior Leadership in the US really needs to step in and grasp a clear picture on the day to day activities of the "leaders" in Hoofddorp. Focus on really becoming a Great Place to Work. Be transparent on where the company is going and what the focus should be. It's a same seeing a lot of colleagues leaving for similar reasons but all this feedback doesn't seemed heard by sr. leadership.
