I have been working at Play-Well TEKnologies part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This job has a lot of flexibility in terms of taking time off or missing a day. It also is a very fun job to have usually, with a lot of freedom in selecting what you want to teach. Training is thorough and paid, and communication between members of a region is usually solid.

    Cons

There are simply not enough hours during the school year to support someone who is out of school and does not have another job. If you are looking for a career, the instructor position is not an option, but if you are just looking for something on the side of something else, like school, then this is perfect. Also, there is a great deal of driving to different locations, which you are compensated for.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about how much work is available during school year, I was told 15-20 hrs/week and never got more than 15, which itself was rare. Also, if possible , work on ways to make the instructor position have full-time hours available year-round. You will definitely retain more employees if that is an option.

I worked at Play-Well TEKnologies part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had an awkward schedule and they always worked with me to make sure it fit my needs.

    Cons

We were understaffed so when I couldn't work, I got guilt tripped into working more than they initially said I would.

I have been working at Play-Well TEKnologies part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is competitive. Compensation for time and travel is more than fair. Supportive co-workers and managers. Everything they do walks that very fine line between professional and fun.

    Cons

Only downside is that I can't do this full time during the school year.

Management team is amazing and very supportive. Fun to be able to work with an array of people with different skills and personalities. We get to teach kids engineering concepts daily and have a blast doing so. What could be better?

I worked at Play-Well TEKnologies part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management is so understanding and respectful, they worked around my class schedule and made sure that I had time off for finals. Co workers are really cool, and the company aligns with me morally, pro LGBT and pro girls in STEM. The work itself can be fun (but teaching a room of kids is exausting too) and when you have ideas the company wants to encourage you and see what can happen, they care about your opinions.

    Cons

The hours are part time during the school year

I have been working at Play-Well TEKnologies part-time

    Pros

You get to have a positive impact on the lives of children, and you get to do it playing with Legos. The company offers competitive pay and treats it's employees with a lot of respect.

    Cons

Work hours can be very inconsistent. You might be teaching 5 classes a week one month and have no classes the next; which can be a financial strain. There are also few full time positions available, making advancement in the company difficult.

    Advice to Management

Finding a way to have more predictable and consistent work hours and advancement opportunities would go a long way to reducing Instructor turnover.

    I worked at Play-Well TEKnologies full-time

    Pros

Fun, exciting, and creative company. Unique opportunity. You get to meet a lot of people, help people create their visions for events.

    Cons

Very little communication, nobody seems to be on the same page. The expectation of work vs. the amount of time is completely unrealistic.

    Advice to Management

Try to make more clearly defined roles. Someone in management and with prior management experience likely doesn’t want to have to teach. In emergency situations it’s one thing, but when you’re criticized for falling short as a manger when you spend 20 hours a week teaching/commuting that’s difficult. Additionally, the pay is little to nothing for the work that’s expected. There shouldn’t be instructors making almost what the manager makes. Also, the cost of health insurance for a manger is almost a 10th of their income.
