Great place to work while maintaining work/life balance

      Pros

Highly competent, professional work environment across multiple company business units. Solid benefits.

      Cons

Overall comp can't compete with the biggest bay area tech companies. Changes are generally slow to happen given the corporate structure.

      Pretty nice until the layoffs

      Pros

*Good work environment *Nice perks (there would huge sales where games and PlayStation products were dirt cheap and a ton of free games at the end of every quarter) *Great food(not free) *Wonderful teammates *Some good experience for people seeking to get into game development

      Cons

      * Nearly Minimum wage even though a college degree was not only preferred, 90% of the people who worked in QA had one. *Some games are so boring it was torture having to test it 3+ days in a row *Laid off the entire QA division to move them to a branch in Europe *Technically part time for working 7 and a half hours a day so no actual benefits. *Not a con so much for PlayStation but just QA in general. Though it's some good experience, regardless of the company, most of the time QA is not going to be a break through into a bigger game development carrier. A lot of fresh starters dont really know that.

Positive work environment. Engineers, developers, and other employees who love to work but also love to game. Nerds, but fun and cool nerds. Great benefits and job perks

      Cons

Management can be frustrating at times but what company doesn't have this problem. Things typically get resolved

      Full Time SDE review

      Pros

After interning at two different offices over two years, I converted to full time. My time with Playstation Network has been good, both of my managers were cool in their own ways and the work was interesting. The San Diego office is more laid back and the San Francisco office is more like a standard hot tech company in the bay. Since I am going to be working fulltime in the bay I will give the Pros and cons of that office. Pros: - fun work environment, many avid gamers if you're into that kinda thing - Smart workers: all of the people I worked with knew what they were doing and were helpful, it's good to see that at a fairly new company. - Agile software development: The software development pace is quite quick which is great for rapid development and actually getting to see your changes in production. - The office is nice and in a good location to bart to. They are remodeling and adding some more entertainment like a new pool table.

      Cons

      - Some times the work environment can be stressful, but that is to be expected when working on PS4 features affecting millions of users

      Intern experience

      Pros

Very welcoming and friendly work environment! My team was extremely helpful in introducing me and incorporating me into their work-flow, so that I may better assist them. Plenty of fun activities and 'swag' were given out, such as an all-intern trip to E3, custom t-shirts, backpacks, battery packs, and much more. Over the 3 or so months, there were several lunch meet-and-greet/talks by the company's top executives and leaders, including the president, who all took time out of their day to share their experiences, answer our questions, and give us advice for the future. At the end you get to show your fellow interns what you worked on. Free coffee, soda, to keep you productive throughout the day, as well as free bagels or donuts on Fridays. Don't worry about gaining weight though because you also get a free gym membership and all the offices are either next to a gym or have one within the building! I'm probably forgetting a ton more... Overall, an extremely rewarding and fun way to spend a summer!

      Cons

Absolutely none, this is a win-win type of deal.

Uninspiring place to work where mediocrity is tolerated and excellence is discouraged

Mar 31, 2012 - Senior Software Engineer in Los Angeles, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The perks are nice. The work environment is extremely lax. Expectations are low and there is little accountability. Middle management is mostly clueless so it's very easy to slack off during the work day. You will never get fired. If you are writing a comedy series or a comic strip about indifferent workers and clueless managers, this job could be an excellent source of material.

      Cons

It is an extremely political environment driven by insecurity and paranoia. If you can tolerate being in the right clique, you will do okay. You will also do okay if you are indifferent about work and are just there to collect a pay check. It is not the place to be if you are a high-achiever. You will be seen as a threat by middle management, lose what little autonomy and decision-making power you had, and get criticized when your less-capable peers complain about you refusing to do their jobs for them. Most of the high-achievers have already left so what remains are lazy "lifers" and the naive who do not know any better (do a search on the "dead sea effect").
