    Pros

The work is exciting and always changing.
The people I'm working with are awesome and make coming to work fun

    Cons

The company has grown a lot in the last 10 years. I don't feel we've kept up with the growth and some of our processes and mindsets haven't evolved.

Management (both middle and upper) come off as not embracing change and this hurts the employee. We feel like we are stuck in a rut and cannot get changes implemented.

Benefits have been scaled back over the years and insurance costs (to the employee) have increased dramatically. I know all companies are facing challenges due to ObamaCare but the changes at Plexus are outrageous.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you look at employee retention / happiness. When the economy picks up I expect motivated and valued employees will start leaving for companies with better benefits and perks.

    Pros

The people I worked with made it fun and easier to work there. They have medical(high deductible), dental and vision insurance. You have paid time off, vacation and sick time.

    Cons

Schedule changes very often. Mandatory overtime you're expected to work 60hrs a week when they have a lot of work. When it slows down, you barely get your hours. They have a point system where you accumulate points for being late, calling in sick or leaving early.

    Advice to Management

Please take the time to learn who you employ.

I worked at Plexus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At one time was a beacon of growth and opportunity for recent college grads or those lacking a 2 or 4 year degree.

    Cons

The business is very bumpy and layoffs are frequent. Culture is rather stressful and demanding.

    Advice to Management

Competition appears to be able to prepare and respond to market dips, maybe take a peak on the other side of the fence and take some notes.

I worked at Plexus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large company with possibility for advancement and promotion. Great people. Nice, clean and modern facility. Good start for recent college graduates.

    Cons

Keep you very busy. Salaries are mostly not competitive. Individual performance is secondary to overall performance of the site/company in decisions about pay raise.

I worked at Plexus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting projects. New industrial, telecom and medical device products that need out of box thinking to get them launched and help identify and remedy any process or testing issues. Good, dedicated, talented people to work with.

    Cons

I have seen a slow erosion of benefits and perks over the years. Low raises, the longer you stay the further behind you get. A lot of focus on stock holders expectations, stock price, balance sheet reporting and investor days. Company is not really focusing on the needs of the people that are actually providing that growth and what makes the workers and supporting staff happy and productive.

    Advice to Management

Neenah is not the center of the universe. Provide Neenah type benefits/perks to all sites. Stop the competition between engineering services and manufacturing solutions. Better support, communication and cooperation from engineering services to the manufacturing solutions locations will show a unified company focused on overall customer success and as a result of better customer care, the customer will want to engage more with new projects if they are happy and not being nickle-ed and dime-ed for every small change request. Take better care of the employees as they ARE the company. Do what is right for the people of the company and worry less about the stock market.

    I worked at Plexus full-time

    Pros

There is a wide variety of projects and customers which is interesting for a engineering generalist. The work life balance in Engineering Solutions is reasonable in that you don't need to work at night or on weekends.
There are worse places to work such as a dying business or industry. Plexus seems to steadily plug along with minor growth.

    Cons

Plexus consists almost exclusively of white middle aged males who think alike. There is not a lot of room for diversity of people or ideas. There is no flexibility in work schedule or work options and advancement is difficult unless you are on a succession plan.

Salary and benefits are solidly below what other engineering salaries would be at other companies and may be part of the reason why turnover in high at design centers.

The engineering work that Plexus wins tends to be a bit more basic since companies outsource the easier work and lab equipment is not state of the art.
If you are smart and ambitious, you will ultimately be frustrated by Plexus after a year or two. If you are a Engineer that sees work as nothing more than a paycheck, it is a good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Decentralize control of Engineering Solutions and let each design center maximize their potential.
