I worked at Plum Creek Timber full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plum Creek had a great culture and was full of friendly, knowledgeable employees.

    Cons

Company was sold to Weyerhaeuser--a good place to work in its own right.

I worked at Plum Creek Timber (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting work, great people and good work life balance. Good compensation, especially bonuses!!! Good benefits package, including pension, 6% 401k match, medial low and high deductible choices.

    Cons

Merged with Weyerhaeuser. Bonuses cut in half, no pension, 3% match, only high deductible medical.

    Advice to Management

They should have never merged, Plum Creek was a far better employer. Very sad.

    Cons

    Pros

I enjoyed my time at Plum Creek, and noticed that it got much more relaxed and less formal in the time that I was there. Everyone is very smart and capable, only a very few bad apples in the bunch.

    Cons

Senior management can be slow to adapt, would like company to embrace longer-term outlook rather than quarterly focus. 2 weeks paid vacation to start is not very good.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the company culture is taking root at all levels - sometimes managers that don't have lives don't want their direct reports to have lives either.

I have been working at Plum Creek Timber full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In the midst of this recession everyone was given a blanket 2% raise to show they cared. We also still get a well run, well funded defined pension program along with a well run 401K. We are always told that management says people first

    Cons

Small company with a lot of petty small compay politics. A single person can carry to much churn with a couple of allies.

    Advice to Management

I was told ther other day that a person I work with feels like working for Plum Creek must be a little like what it feels to win the lottery. In these difficult economic times she felt like the top management is looking out for us -- there's not much more that can be added to that.

    Pros

Good job, well paid and well treated. I don't know what else to say other than I try to do my best work and in return I am treated well and compensated well.

    Cons

It is a small company and therefore has the politics and limitations of a small company. If you need a large environment with lots of ways to advance then this place is not for you. If you like the small company atmosphere where everyone knows each each other. It's more like a family than a traaditional corporate environment.

    Advice to Management

none. I'm not plugged in at a level high enough to really have insight for the top tier management.

I worked at Plum Creek Timber full-time

    Pros

Plum Creek was a great place to work. The culture was great and everybody was treated as equals. It was place where things got done and people enjoyed the work.

    Cons

Inter-company mobility could have been a little better and also more disclosure on why certain individuals were promoted.

    Advice to Management

I had a great boss. No issues here.

I have been working at Plum Creek Timber full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great camaraderie, higher than average compensation, good leadership.

    Cons

Too much reliance on the housing market turnaround causing it to "backfill" with land sales. In retrospect, that model was doomed making the merger inevitable.
