    Pros

Certain individual attorneys in management are excellent. Diverse practice available. Entrepreneurial potential for certain individuals.

    Cons

I have been working at Plunkett Cooney full-time

    Pros

Benefits - cannot beat 6 weeks off and full coverage health insurance these days.

    Cons

Employee morale is miserable. Working for 3 or 4 attorneys at a time is grueling and, at times, impossible. HR has no clue what we do anymore. They assume we can handle everything in a regular work week. Overtime is not allowed unless you are on a select list of those who work it regularly. "Work Processes and Efficiencies" have only created MORE work and frustration.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue of what your staff does and needs to get the job done. Stop the nonsense of working for more than 2 (or, with very rare situations, 3) attorneys. Check in with your staff. Be more engaged. Eliminate Coordinating Secretary positions. Eliminate "project management" positions. Eliminate so-called best practices, which is simply annoying and mostly useless. Pay your secretaries according to market rates and stop assuming we'll stay because of benefits -- while that is mostly the reason we do stay, we deserve more.

I worked at Plunkett Cooney full-time

    Pros

Great Benefits and Great opportunities for growth!

    Cons

If you run across certain people in management and supervisory positions who are unable to think outside the box, you may clash with them. Eventually they will find a way to get rid of you while smiling in your face.

    Advice to Management

Take a close look at individuals in supervisory roles who have had quite a few of their employees under them either leave or get fired. You will find that its not the employees but the supervisor.

I worked at Plunkett Cooney full-time

    Pros

Plunkett Cooney is for the most part a family oriented company. Most individuals who work there have the opportunity to get promoted within the company regardless of your position. Also they have a wonderful benefit package.

    Cons

Unfortunately, because of a few controlling individuals people have been allowed to be promoted in the company because of the people they know and not based on their abilities. I was there for a number of years and this is not how the company was operated when I first started.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the number of individuals who have either quit or have been fired under certain management. Also, you may want to speak with the Human Resource manager as they are aware of what is going on but they are not able to correct this problem because of the power that this individual has.

I have been working at Plunkett Cooney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities for newer attorneys to learn, handle all aspects of files and gain courtroom experience

    Cons

No restaurants in walking distance of Bloomfield Hills office

    Pros

Unlike most other large law firms, most people don't have Type A personalities. Younger and newer associates are treated well and given opportunities to handle actual files, appear in court, and argue motions.

    Cons

The firm no longer offers free soda, bottled water, or juice. We also use BlackBerrys and DROIDs instead of iPhones. But these are the largest "cons" about this firm. Great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, keep Hank Cooney (or someone just like him) as President and CEO, and all will be great for everyone.
