I worked at Pocket Gems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people! Company skews toward the younger side, but the people are still super nice and very enthusiastic about games. Lots of opportunities and challenges. You will learn a lot and have a ton of responsibilities. Great perks. No strict hours and face time isn't valued as highly as many places. Very tolerant of different personality types. Tolerant of mistakes as long as you learn from them.

    Cons

You do work very hard (but you do learn a lot). The company isn't always run as well as you'd like, but it's small. Training is mostly by fire. Pay is lower than more opportunities out there, but the responsibility you get is pretty amazing. Career progression can vary dramatically and stalls for some while accelerates for others.

    Advice to Management

Consistency from management would be appreciated. I left, but love the place. Please keep the door open.

    Pros

Lots of perks. Good location. Nice benefit. People are nice here. Extremely intelligent and helpful.

    Cons

The game ideas are nearly obsolete. Tech stacks need to be replaced for match to growth.

    Advice to Management

Hire more server and front-end engineer.

I have been working at Pocket Gems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good company to work for, they try to take care of their employees. Lunchs are provided and it's a cool working enviroment (office wise). The CEO seems like he's got his head on right and the company is growing like crazy.

    Cons

It is definitely a millenial run place. The groups are very clicky and trying to fit in can be a challenge for "older styled" workers. And the office is not definitely geared toward workers with families.

The pay is much lower than market. But they try to make it up with other amenities.

I have been working at Pocket Gems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love working for Pocket Gems for 5 reasons.
    - I have ownership over my work
    - I know my work has immediate impact - I can see the charts move when I make something better
    - The company rewards initiative. If something's broken, I can just fix it
    - Everyone's smart here and shares my initiative.
    - We get to work on games. What could be better?

    Cons

    - High standards. Don't apply if you're not passionate about the job.
    - We're still learning about how to stand by our values.
    - As a company, we still have some process improvements to complete.

    Advice to Management

    - Keep going. Keep building great stuff.
    - Make sure to demonstrate that we can stand by what we say we stand for.
    - More free food.

I worked at Pocket Gems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great place to start your career and learn the basics and foundations of mobile apps, processes, and best practices.

Perks are good, the people outside of work environments are fun.

The pay is more or less above average for gaming only, below average for tech industry unless you are a high level executive or a software developer.

    Cons

-poor upper level management constantly making poor product decisions
-elitist culture in which only prestigious backgrounds are taken seriously
-extremely corporate answers for any questions, almost zero transparency
-no longer a major innovator in mobile gaming
-company culture is spiraling downwards with recent hiring

    Advice to Management

Don't forget where the company came from, and promote within.
Admit mistakes were made more often and hold accountability within upper management
Remember that culture is what built the company great, and build on that before it disappears
Get rid of elitist culture and listen to people who are passionate about the product, not the ones who have fancy degrees

    Pros

Smart people, great environment, great benefits, excellent growth, get to work on awesome mobile games

    Cons

Is a startup so sometimes you have to develop you own processes for getting stuff done. And when you or someone else leaves the company, those processes are usually taken with them since they're the only ones who know how to do it.
