I worked at Poet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Starting pay is good.
    That's it.

    Cons

    Swing shifts.
Plant techs are the lowest "class" of the hierarchy.
Shift supervisors act like they are better than the techs, talk down to the techs, talk about people behind their backs, push out anyone that doesn't follow blindly and don't care about their teams.
Shift supervisors leave early come in late and don't follow the rules especially during night shifts.
Supervisors don't care about their teams or what the techs might have going on in their lives.
Basically the shift supervisors run all over you and couldn't care less about the people they are supposed to train and make no secrets about it.
Good ol boy system at it's finest!!!

    Advice to Management

You have some good people but not very many. Actually look at the shift supervisors and their actions! Don't let the fact they have been around since startup effect how you view them and their actions. The shift supervisors are not leaders they are parasites that chase away people that would more than likely stay for a long time.

I worked at Poet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Decent pay for the area.

    Cons

The hiring process takes literally over a month. The pay is horrible for the industry as a whole. The management team treats non-management as second class citizens. They say they prefer to promote from within, but 90% of advancement opportunities are filled with inexperienced outside candidates. They won't give a raise that puts you earning more than anyone who's been employed for any amount of time longer than you, despite knowledge, work ethic, abilities, etc., because it would be "unfair". Eligible employees disappear when profit sharing time comes around. You're forced to sign a 2 year non-compete regardless of position, this seems to be to keep you from going to another company for higher pay and better benefits. If they do promote from within they'll choose literally the worst employees, not figuratively, the ones who repeatedly break the "zero tolerance" rules. The maintenance team sits around watching youtube and napping. The plant is perpetually understaffed for all these reasons.

    Advice to Management

The entire management staff at this location needs to be removed and replaced with people who know how to lead, treat employees with respect, care about employees, and who aren't solely driven by self-serving greedy motivations. There is a ton of corruption in the management team here.

    Pros

The office space is very nice. The onsite gym is also a plus.

    Cons

The office space is equally boring. Also, the company talks about being the shepherd's of the earth, but by their business practices, you can tell that they only really care about the bottom line.

I have been working at Poet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Based on the area, the money is definitely above average. The benefits are all there, 401k, insurance and the like. Potential for growth based on blue collar positions isn't all there.

    Cons

Long hours. Lack of leadership oversight. They hire anyone willing to do the jobs. No skill, experience or education? No problem. Welcome to POET.

    Advice to Management

Set your standards a little higher. Focus more on the individuals and less on profit.

    Pros

Great mission and it is a company that is truly trying to help the environment.

    Cons

The company still shoots from the hip a little bit, but that's also what has allowed them to get where they are by taking chances.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course on Mission and Vision.
