I worked at Point B full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great training, lots of young employees who hang out together. Great first job for a culture that continues college.

    Cons

Grunt work that supports the experienced consultants. In crowd that gets promoted for reasons other than hard work, solid work. Bringing in sales is what they want.

    Advice to Management

    Alternative career paths.

I have been working at Point B full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great options exist for flexibility, if you can get them - it takes a while to build up an internal reputation strong enough to allow for that flexibility. Love the ability to work at different clients, experience different cultures, and grow.

    Cons

"Choice" isn't always choice, as an employee-owned company, there is a fair amount of pressure to take what's in front of you vs. deciding on something else. I don't feel like there are often roles available for the direction I want to go / interests, but we do our best.

    Advice to Management

Please don't turn us into one of the big consulting firms. Our little firm was founded by people who got burnt out in that environment, and I fear we are now heading back in that direction in the name of profit.

    Cons

    Pros

Good work life balance. Work can be very interesting depending on the client you get staffed at. The company culture is great and has fun outings on a yearly basis to get away and celebrate with co-workers.

    Cons

Lack of strategic leadership and transparency of where the firm is headed. Haven't lived up to the growth plan set in place and it's hard to follow how we plan to grow. Lack of staffing direction and understanding of why candidates are proposed for certain roles and not others.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your people and help to develop and grow early career candidates. Help to better align the leaders in the firm with early career candidates to help build skills necessary to thrive in consulting.

I worked at Point B full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Eligible to take LOA between projects. You're mostly left to your own devices, w/o interference. Folks are very experienced and have been open with information and help.

    Cons

No paid vacation. Long commutes. Bad buyers; and they continue to purchase from them. Complex payment structure and resistance to raises and bonuses. If you want more pay, focus is on more hours rather than rate increase.
Work is very PM oriented... I have a hard time distinguishing the work from staff augmentation.

    Advice to Management

Would be nice if you stood up for consultants in the face of difficulty.

    I worked at Point B full-time

    Pros

Emphasis on local project assignments (travel not required, is an option)
    Generally high caliber of colleagues
Culture of work/life balance, drive for results, choice, flexibility

    Cons

DNA is in operations and execution. Assignments typically staff augmentation as project leaders/managers. Consultants or specialists in strategy may not feel a fit.
Pay is moderate with minimal upside unless selling new work.
Some people managers less well experienced, performance expectations can be vague, not well communicated.

    Advice to Management

Speed of execution is impressive yet delivery speed seems valued over strategy, quality and depth.

I worked at Point B full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Point B is filled with intelligent leaders with years of experience leading challenging projects. The opportunity to learn from outstanding colleagues is one of Point B's main values. Point B offers associates the ability to work in a variety of client settings. Each engagement is unique which enables associates to expand and grow.

    Cons

The company culture has changed with expansion. It has the feel of a large consulting firm culture now.

    Advice to Management

Ask employees for feedback and listen.

    I worked at Point B full-time

    Pros

Working alongside great people; you will build lasting friendships.

    Cons

Leadership inexperienced at running management consulting firm. Decisions made in 2012 led to financial pressures. Too much internal focus rather than understanding external/market indicators. Promotions into leadership often a stretch and then leaders don't receive adequate training and mentorship. Virtually no external hires into leadership. No external perspective on the Board.

    Advice to Management

Get some external perspectives on the Board.

    Pros

    Very smart, engaging people
    Nice work atmosphere
    Some great clients
    Has well defined culture

    Cons

Strategic reorg of company is creating a lot of unnecessary hierarchy diminishing the associate experience.
Needs to work on its biz dev engine more.
    Not much development opportunities.
A lot of positioning within long termers for internal roles

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of looking at asociate experience especially when major changes are going on. Keep focus of company on those doing client service delivery.
