    I worked at PokitDok full-time

    Pros

The tech is about as interesting as you can get, considering health IT is about 30 years behind the curve. They'll probably get acquired by some nameless conglomerate in a few years, giving you a chance to work somewhere better.

    Cons

It was exciting originally, but PokitDok grew so rapidly while the C-level grew ever less interested in running a decent business. A flood of salespeople came on who would tell customers anything they wanted to hear make commission and left the mess for support and engineers to clean up. Multiple layers of management fighting for territory make sure you'll always be on somebody's bad side. Problems get ignored or publically shamed. When your "chief people officer" gets a writeup in Forbes, and says her best tip is to provide a safe space for EXECUTIVES to air their concerns, the train is well off the rails.

    Advice to Management

When people tell you something is wrong, listen for once. Problems don't go away just because you don't believe they exist.

I worked at PokitDok full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff is amazing (not management but the actual staff).

    They pay well, sometimes?

CEO is brilliant (when not fighting with CTO)

    Cons

TURN OVER IS SUPER HIGH! People who used to be lifers are suddenly gone after the B round closed. No loyalty for time worked or effort put in. Bonuses only go to a few select people. If you're not in the inner circle, good luck.

"PeopleOps" is a joke, if you bring anything to them be prepared to either get fired or worse they just make your life miserable. PeopleOps is run by one/two people from Atlanta and have no idea what Valley culture is or what it takes to run a kick butt tech company.

CEO and CTO fight constantly in front of staff.

No real vision for product and what once was a company based on transparency is wrought with closed door meetings.

Unlike most tech companies - they've built walls around management, you know where you stand because there's a door between you and all managers.

You'll get promised a raise and then no one actually follows through, when you follow up you're looked at like your crazy. If you're important enough you can get a title change - which will help you at your next job.

The healthcare offering for a healthcare tech company is a JOKE! Some of the lowest in the valley.

Work/Life balance is a joke. Slack will make you hate life and your partner will learn to despise both Slack and Poitdok for the abuse of working in the evenings.

    Advice to Management

Be introspective, you were once a great company with vision. Now you're just another failing tech company who's lost your culture.

Re-examine who you have leading your company and why the turn over is so high. People aren't happy they're just afraid.

I have been working at PokitDok full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Every Employee's individual work is in line with the Company's overall mission and is visible to anyone at anytime. Extremely flat structure (the kind you have to see to believe). Great work environment where it feels like everyone really cares about your success and is willing to help you achieve your goals.

    Cons

It can be intimidating at times working around so many high achievers and amazingly talented people. Expectations are high but it makes all of us and the Company better in the long run.

    Advice to Management

Keep on keeping on with the anti-middle management structure.

    Pros

It was an excellent environment for growth - lots of stuff is always happening and people are super excited to be doing it. There's a lot of belief in the mission and no time for BS. The engineers are all very talented people who could easily go to Google/Facebook/etc but choose to be here instead. The business people are also very smart and know how to interact with the engineers well. There's lots of room to make choices that would normally be made for you at a larger company.

    Cons

It can get a little grueling at times - it _is_ a startup and they take agile culture / commitment seriously. Ultimately though it's not a "con" so much as a matter of personal fit; if you're looking for a job where you can take it easy and work from 9 to 5 so that "work stays at work," keep looking.

    Advice to Management

None that I can think of; people butt heads sometimes but that's to be expected when you have this many smart people working together.

I have been working at PokitDok full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My peers have been very helpful in providing on-boarding assistance, while also giving me projects early on. I feel that I am positioned to make an immediate impact here -- unlike other places where you are "hidden in the trenches" for months/years. I am very glad to be working for Lisa, Ted and the PD family.

    Cons

You are expected to pick things up quickly and figure things out on your own. However, someone is always willing to help you out if you ask.

    Advice to Management

we are a pretty flat company... so keep on truckin' on!

    Pros

Great opportunity to work with extremely smart people and be part of history. Pokitdok is very flexible and offers many opportunities for growth. I like my coworkers & look forward to group gatherings. Great management in place that I trust completely.

    Cons

Figuring out what to do is not always fun but you do get to set your own process!

    Advice to Management

Share the knowledge. Listen. Continue to communicate and keep the 'transparency' within PD.

I have been working at PokitDok full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a really dynamic environment interested in getting things done - and enjoying the ride! As an engineer its great to be somewhere where engineers are a highly valued part of the team. Actually its great to be part of a company where everyone is highly valued, contribution is rewarded, and making mistakes in the name of doing/progress/learning is OK. There are so many innovative areas in the company to build products using the latest technologies, its an engineers dream. The bi-coastal breadth and depth of experience in the company is amazing. There are so many people willing to mentor and help you grow your career.

    Cons

It can be hard to keep up with all the extremely talented people, so you've got to keep your head up. Well, its a start-up, so there's that.

    Advice to Management

Keep the personal mentoring going. The passion, knowledge and involvement of the leaders is inspiring and motivational.

    Pros

Great product. Smart co-workers. Flexible and diverse. Ultimately if you want to change the healthcare system through innovation, data and technology, this is the place for you. You'll have all the benefit of working on a mission that you might otherwise only get through non-profit work, but be paid Silicon Valley wages with huge upside growth and equity potential.

    Cons

Pace is fast and environment somewhat unstructured, as with most earlier stage start-ups. Currently understaffed, but they are working on growing as quickly as possible!

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep up the great work and push through the high-growth phases with a focused vision for execution.

I have been working at PokitDok full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My coworkers are some of the very best at what they do. It's awesome to be around a group of people that are always looking to improve and refine everything they do. It's pushed me to improve my skills and to think more about the overall product and not just technical implementation details. The company operates openly in a group chat system so everyone has visibility into activities across the company. It encourages good cross-team interaction and helps keep operations transparent.

    Cons

Honestly - it can be a bit intimidating at first to work with a group of people with such a wealth of experience and an intense focus to improve everything about the business of health. Once you get to know the team, you quickly realize that their intensity is all about making the team better. This includes helping team members really advance their careers.

    Advice to Management

Continue working hard to maintain the philosophy of advancing the careers of people at the company.
A key reason I joined PokitDok was the willingness of the co-founders to freely share their experience about all aspects of running a technology company. I feel this is a key differentiator when recruiting talented people to the company. It sets you apart from many organizations that simply want people to code up a specification without thinking about how to really make a better product.
