Great culture and atmosphere, but schedule and cost seem to be the only real concerns.

      Pros

Culture is like none-other! In general the people are great to work with and most are understanding. Team rides, "free" vehicles to use, excellent discounts, and amazing profit sharing are all huge pros.

      Cons

The small company feel is starting to dwindle. There seems to be rapid shifts in management and organization that scream lack of foresight. What made Polaris great is that everyone was an enthusiast. When you start to go "where the talent is" you lose the enthusiasts, and you get people that are just here for a job, and don't really care about the customer experience.

      Don't Work Here

      Pros

-Profit sharing -Good team -Benefits -Slow paced company -Easy If you are on a good team, it makes the job fun and bearable.

      Cons

-Toxic culture -No growth opportunities -Too many executives and directors -95% of employees aren't technical experts in their field -Unwilling to adapt or change to industry standards -Stuck in 1970s Polaris is the definition of a stepping stone company. If you have any type of automotive or industrial manufacturing experience, this is NOT the place for you. Polaris is run by people who are really passionate about their products but they are not experts in their field. Leadership team only wants good ideas that come from amongst themselves and don't listen to their "low level" employees. Everyone uses the phrase "that's what they do in the automotive industry" but no one comes from there. Polaris only cares about getting the cheapest thing to get a cost save for them today. They are unable to think 5 years down the road so there is consistently band-aids to fix problems over and over due to their lack of planning.

Great Team Atmosphere, but Highly Reactive, Quality Not a Top Priority

Feb 25, 2020 - Manufacturing Engineer in Huntsville, AL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

401k Match, Profit Sharing, Awesome product by design and excellent comradery. Employee lease program for salaried. Plenty of job security, even if you suck at your job.

      Cons

Quality nightmare. No accountability for anyone on the quality side. Management will do/say whatever it takes to hide the problems from the design teams and project managers in MN. Micromanaging, nobody stays in their lane and the roles are so poorly defined--"other duties as assigned" is more of an expectation than actual roles. Inventory management is non-existent, millions per year spent on expediting freight when it could be sitting in the warehouse. If you're an engineer or technical person, you're likely to become a pawn for the sake of improving delivery and cost. Quality stops being a priority the second something happens to take eyes off it...*Squirrel!* Frequent "Kaizen" events to do the work of those actually responsible for driving quality system improvements. Frequent changes in strategy and leadership, noone can stay ahead of the curve long enough to make measurable progress.

Looks good on the surface, but lots of big, systemic issues

Apr 25, 2020 - Senior Systems Engineer in Wyoming, MN

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The products are cool, great co-workers

      Cons

Very poorly managed company. Lack of consistent direction from management (go as fast as you can down one path, then someone changes their mind, so now go as fast as you can in a completely different direction). Engineering is always getting pushed to go faster and use less resources - see the line above for why resources get wasted. Engineering gets blamed for everything - I've never been at a company where this is so bad. Engineering teams are overworked and over-stressed. Management knows employees are passionate about the products and they take advantage of this to push them way too hard. Need more people, fewer programs, or more time - there's no way around this - but Polaris decided to lay off a bunch of engineering employees this winter anyway (this was well before COVID 19 hit the United States). People say that the profit sharing bonus is a positive. But profit-sharing bonus is a big part of the pay, which makes overall salary unpredictable and it's kind of stressful. Pay is low for the workload and stress even with a good bonus, and would be abysmal without the bonus. Vacation is only 2 weeks for the first 3 years, and zero paternal leave. Now that COVID-19 is here and putting strain on companies like Polaris, I simply do not have faith that they will put the interest of their employees first when things get tough.
