I worked at Polaroid full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The best thing was the employees, however few remain due to downsizing and early/ regular retirement packages. Benefits were excellent

    Cons

Technology is now old and redundant. Has lost its niche now that there isn't a large market for instant film and cameras.

I worked at Polaroid full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In its heyday, Polaroid was THE place to be. Great people, interesting projects, great benefits and a fantastic office location in Technology Square, Cambridge.

    Cons

Back then, Dr Land had passed away and Polaroid didn't keep pace with the digital revolution. Add in some super-greedy top management and the place was doomed. What a shame.

To anyone reading this review, I have written it to gain access to Glassdoor's reviews. My recent employers have been small startups and if I reviewed them, they'd know it was me, and that could compromise my career. So I wrote about Polaroid, which I left in 2000.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck!

I worked at Polaroid full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Feeling of empowerment, respected for who you are and what you do, diversity acceptance, no micro management of individual contributors, employee stock/ownership, 401K match, great health insurance package, on-site fitness centers at most locations, family oriented with events for the entire family planned throughout the year. Employees are made to feel comfortable in being themselves and affording themselves the opportunity of serving on varied and diverse committees if they chose to. Great internal application process to have the chance to be promoted from within. The culture was phenomenal and I knew of no one who did not look forward to going to work at Polaroid every day.

    Cons

Once Dr. Land passed away all hell broke loose. All employees were employee owners and should have played a major role if there was no plan in place as to the future of Polaroid. Great technology/marketing ideas which took too long, for whatever reason to market, thereby allowing competitors to launch a very similar product first.

    Advice to Management

Once Dr. Land passed away, there should have been a plan in place. Employee owners should have had the opportunity to vote for Dr. Land's successor.

    Pros

Worked with many hard working and dedicated people.

    Cons

Allowed some employees to create a hostile work environment and never did anything to fix problems. Morale was extremely low.

    Advice to Management

    Need to openly communicate more.
