    Pros

Great staff to work with, good book and health benefits after 90 days, its a decent place if you love books and need something to start with.

    Cons

Start you at minimum wage ($14 ph) and not too much room to move up

    Expert Colleagues Make Days Great

Feb 19, 2021 - Bookseller in Washington, DC

    Pros

Smart, dedicated people who care about what they do. Management trying hard to keep people safe. Internal advancement seems very possible.

    Cons

Undercurrent of dissatisfaction from hourly employees who have ever-expanding job descriptions and never-expanding pay. Very little straightforward communication about that employee dissatisfaction to management breeds discontent. Owners want to provide customers with small-store service in a bigger store which can be stressful.

    Nightmare factory

    Pros

They do an incredible job hiring booksellers who are cool as hell.

    Cons

The store owner is a union-busting jerk. Despite his limited history in the bookselling industry, he is condescending and intent on micromanaging the store. Eighty percent of the work in the store is done by underpaid floor staffers and management is an absolute disaster.

Great Org if you love books, authors and working in retail setting

    Pros

Politics and Prose is consistently rated the one of the best independent bookstores in the country. As a writer, it was a great opportunity to meet published authors. As someone with a degree in political science, I met people who are making a difference in the political world. I was part-time, so I spent most of my paycheck on books.

    Cons

Small offices. See above about spending most of my paycheck on books.

    Pros

Eclectic group of interesting co-workers. Truly, every employee has something valuable to share and it's a pleasure to go to workouts of the time. The learning curve is steep at first but the staff is supportive.

    Cons

Low pay for a highly qualified staff who all seem to have excellent customer service skills and a great willingness to see the company succeed.
