I worked at Polk County Public School District full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Really great staff to work with. Very supportive and accessible. Some days could be rough but the team usually has your back.

    Cons

Sometimes consequences are not followed up with and kids just don't seem to care. Also some times I've found coworkers who felt unappreciated and burned out.

    Advice to Management

Keep on trucking. Education is a tough gig but support and communication goes a long way.

I worked at Polk County Public School District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Helping kids that are disadvantaged through no fault of their own.

    Cons

Everything else. You're expected to work 80-100 hours a week for minimum wage as the work is required and unpaid.

    Advice to Management

Privatize all the schools in the district.

I have been working at Polk County Public School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great amount of time off, decent benefits, good life and work balance. Great place to work if you don't expect or want to climb the corporate ladder. No rotating on-call or shift work.

    Cons

The pay rate is about 60% of the Regional Average for IT salaries in the Southeastern United States. If you want to expand your skillset it will be on your dime since there is no training provided whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees in the technologies they're implementing and supporting. Do more research of technologies in a "sandbox", non-production environment BEFORE putting software into production on mission critical systems.

Good benefits and lots of vacation time. Family comes first. Family oriented. Monday through Friday work schedule. No shift work.

I have been working at Polk County Public School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great hours/schedule especially if you have a family.

    Cons

The same demands and issues that are an issue all over the nation. Overworked and underpaid.lack of support, ect.

    Advice to Management

The good teachers are leaving. Instead of going to other states/countries to find teachers, why not invest in, appreciate and reward the fabulous teachers that you already have!
