I have been working at Pomegranate Communications full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

At Pomegranate you get a chance to work with some really top-level people, and be involved in the world of art, culture, and education. There are many opportunities to learn more and to grow as a person. The workers are treated with dignity and respect.

    Cons

At Pomegranate everyone is expected to work hard, always trying to improve and keep mistakes from happening. It's a pressure environment, and since a lot of money goes into making the products as good as possible, pay scales are not sky-high.

    Advice to Management

Some workers expect more real-time direction (i.e. supervision) than is customary at Pomegranate. It can be confusing at times since Pomegranate expects everyone to be "on the ball" and to pick up workplace context in an ongoing way.

I worked at Pomegranate Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice products, 401k, health plan

    Cons

This company has all the worst problems of a family-run business: poor personnel management, slapdash systems, sweatshop mentality, and no room for advancement. If you really want to work here, be sure that you are not on salary. Yes, the products are cool, and there are some great employees here, despite the ownership's indifference to their contributions. The business is stable as far as publishing businesses go, but not growing. The company is run by a husband-wife-son team. They do not communicate well with those outside the family. Keeping people in constant fear is the only tool in their management toolbox.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with staff and hire a competent manager

I have been working at Pomegranate Communications full-time

    Pros

low pressure, nice atmosphere, lots of art stuff, strong sense that management is determined to maintain reasonable standards of quality, fairly good transparency about the state of the company

    Cons

low pay, minimal benefits, no room for advancement

    Advice to Management

Try to reward all employees with annual pay increases. Even a little bit would be good. Hold regular reviews and encourage employees to speak their minds at these moments: you might learn something valuable.

I have been working at Pomegranate Communications full-time

    Pros

Everyone at the company is fabulous, they make you feel like it's one big family... and our customers are the best. Pomegranate works closely with profound museums, artist foundations and artists themselves. I can tell you, if you join Pomegranate, you will always be learning something new!

Pomegranate takes pride in publishing beautiful, high quality products that enlighten. It feels good to work there, nice office, very professional work environment but casual wear around the office makes it comfortable. People listen and are open to new ideas. The benefits are good and they sure do know how to throw a party!

    Cons

There's not a lot of room for growth and raises are hard to come by.

    Advice to Management

Communication and show gratitude when hard work is put forth.

I worked at Pomegranate Communications full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great creative work and plenty to do. Nice to take pride in what you do every day. The diversity of the projects keeps the creative group experience interesting. Many wonderful and talented clients, coworkers and suppliers.

    Cons

Raises are rare. Expect to live on your starting salary for up to a decade. Owners rarely give compliments to anyone but expect excellence from every employee. Broke lots of hearts when they moved to Portland and laid off most of their committed workforce.
