I worked at PoolCorp as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent Pay, Flexible Hours, Good Assignments, Work Freedom, Some Complimentary Lunches

    Cons

Hot Warehouse, Unstructured, Not Correlated to Job Description, Not Interesting

    Advice to Management

Need to learn to value employees more and give workers more autonomy. Definitely a decent job if you're desperate, but the unstructured program was a joke.

I have been working at PoolCorp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great stepping stone, Lots of learning opportunities for people that want to take advantage of them, Lots of relocation possibilities, Relatively easy work

    Cons

Safety is an afterthought, Pay is relatively low, Good sales numbers hide poor managers - lots of Sales Center Mangers and Regional Mangers were promoted to their positions when the company was expanding exponentially and were chosen because they had been with the company the longest

    Advice to Management

Streamline pricing, have a smaller higher funded MIT program designed to actually create good Managers by taking smarter people and training instead of churn through anyone you can get your hands on hoping to find a diamond in the rough, Don't be afraid to spend money

    Pros

Great for a first time internship, who recommend for anyone who likes to do a little bit of manual labor along with management work.

    Cons

work a good amount of time in a warehouse which in the summer months can be very hot.

    Advice to Management

more involvement from upper management and direction would be great.

I worked at PoolCorp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee camaraderie was great, employees received a lot of face time with the branch manager and regional manager.

    Cons

Branch manager never really outlined performance expectation, employee turnover was fairly high.

    Advice to Management

Train the new branch managers more before sending them to an existing branch.

I worked at PoolCorp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are within or under a solid manager you will learn a great deal about all aspects of business and be given exceptional opportunities within your first 5 years with the company.

    Cons

Seems to be a ceiling once you reach branch manager level as there is a bottle neck of qualified individuals who are waiting for the baby boomer generation to move on and out of upper tiers of management. While Poolcorp is one of the leaders in the pool industry their overall technical infrastructure is 2 decades behind todays business environment.

    Advice to Management

Invest in new technical infrastructure and make for positions and compensation that will keep MIT's until regional manager positions, and above, open in the next decade.
