I have been working at Porch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's a great vision and concept.

    Cons

But the execution is horrible. The company has lost its focus on it customers and its team. The team is asked to work outside of hours clocked, under paid, and with no support or tools given to succeed further in your role

    Advice to Management

Stop micro managing. Book recommendations: Death by Meetings & One Minute Manager

A lot of great people came and left porch.

      Cons

Felt like you were forced to sell a dream, not a product.

I have been working at Porch full-time for less than a year

      Pros

      - great tech stack - lots of ownership and freedom of choice within teams - fairly diverse company, less so at exec levels - decent financial stability - pretty good benefits for a start up still seeking financial independence - support for learning and growth in concrete ways, like conferences - frequent and transparent all-hands's - not too many recurring meetings - great work/life balance - lots of interesting...

      Cons

      - neighborhood/location/earthquake building rating/no gender neutral bathroom - way too few conference rooms, many meetings held at open air conference tables and even those are hard to grab - office space is 100% open and very cluttered with cardboard boxes and various things. very loud, unorganized seating chart. - very bro-y culture, if you're not in the core cliques you don't know everything going on in the org...

      Advice to Management

Based on headcount, it feels like we're lagging behind in a few areas: - It seems like the senior leadership team's roles and impact should be better defined, especially on the product side. How come I've never met or heard the head of product speak, as a member of the product org? It feels like our direction is fragmented in terms of maturing the product. - HR. How did we *just* get a VP of People after having been...

I have been working at Porch full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Fun work environment - team frequently eats together at lunch and plays cards Hard problems to solve and management expects everyone to contribute to the solution I work in my area of expertise and I am expected to jump in where ever it is needed

      Cons

I don't know if it is a pro or a con. Open office working space - things can get a bit noisy, but make it easy to connect with colleagues. Planed career moves are hard, but easy to get new unexpected opportunities

      Advice to Management

Continue to talk and follow the Porch values. Invest more in leadership training for all managers. Keep up the ATP meetings - good way to understand what is happening at the company.

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

I've gone through the ups and downs of Porch during tenure. I can honestly say that I wouldn't change a thing. Sure it was hard, but it's the type of hard that makes you a better person and employee. I feel like I've packed 20 years worth of experience into my time here because of how much it's pushed me to grow and improve. It's fast, challenging, and will bring out the best in you. This isn't the cushy place that you...

      Advice to Management

Bring back an anonymous feedback loop so employees that may not be as strong willed can feel comfortable voicing strong opinions to leadership.

I have been working at Porch full-time

      Pros

Co-workers are incredibly smart and fun, ambiguous work environment - trusted to try new initiatives and safe place to fail, fun/collaborative work environment, strong team bond, and I feel personally connected to our core values.

      Cons

Because we move so quickly you must be ready to pivot at any time. Several teams working on initiatives it can be hard to understand what everyone does and who supports what as it changes a bit. Moving too quickly can also (at times) create a negative customer experience and it should always be a primary focus.

      Advice to Management

Continue to invest in our product and ensure that customer experience is always top of mind.

I have been working at Porch full-time

      Pros

One of my favorite things about Porch is the way it fosters a growth-mindset. Individuals are empowered to seek out personal and professional development both in house and elsewhere. Employees are encouraged to work hard, take initiative, ask questions and collaborate cross-functionally. Keeping the team as well as the collective goals of the company top of mind is a deeply-rooted aspect of our culture. Another great...

      Cons

Porch moves fast--sometimes too fast. As we're running towards solutions and innovation, sometimes we miss out on opportunities to anticipate repercussions. The result of this is that we're often operating in a reactive manner, versus a proactive manner. Porch has a very meeting-heavy culture, which at times can make for very productive conversations, but other times results in a lot of unnecessary deep-diving that...

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Great environment that allows anyone to step up and have an impact on the company's trajectory. Solid mix of talent from companies big and small creates a culture of smart people who are collaborative and driven to build a successful, self-sufficient company.

      Cons

      None at this time.

I have been working at Porch

      Pros

Environment is chill. Coworkers are cool. Managers are usually supportive. Also the company is growing rapidly so there are tons of opportunities. Cultures and work/life balance are also great.

      Cons

Probably the compensation can be more competitive?

      Cons

      Advice to Management

Focus on what value could be provided and sold to contractors (maybe offering a back-end software, estimating platform, or other software solution to make your offer more enticing). Work on cross-channel communication throughout the organization. Develop possible routes for advancement within organization.
