I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great environment that allows anyone to step up and have an impact on the company's trajectory. Solid mix of talent from companies big and small creates a culture of smart people who are collaborative and driven to build a successful, self-sufficient company.

    Cons

    None at this time.

I have been working at Porch

    Pros

Environment is chill. Coworkers are cool. Managers are usually supportive. Also the company is growing rapidly so there are tons of opportunities. Cultures and work/life balance are also great.

    Cons

Probably the compensation can be more competitive?

I have been working at Porch full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Porch is a wonderful place to work. As much as the concept of “start-up” is now a myth in this day and age... It *feels* like one of the “big” organizations in tech in terms of protocol, intention and respect, while also having that crackle and excitement of a brand new endeavor. The perks are well intended and reasonable. Pragmatically not gratuitous, although if funds permitted, one could expect to see more...

    Cons

Few clear cut paths toward career advancement. ....A few select individuals seem to assume the vast majority of responsibilities in given arenas. Professional disconnect between teams. At times, confusion... ...in general, as to how we approach the mission at hand. Porch is multifaceted and has so many moving parts that keeping up is impossible. Product updates, teams, strategy and important details are often...

    Advice to Management

The ORG chart seems to move on its own at time... with certain roles being repurposed, and others being ambiguous to begin with. Some roles could be effectively delegated from within to allow less experienced employees to find niches and gain career traction. For each external hire, a junior equivalent from within would ensure a redundancy and “home grown” talent advantage... if only in title until the department...

I have been working at Porch full-time

    Pros

I have been with Porch for awhile and have seen it through its ups and downs. It is definitely on an up and that makes it an exciting place to be right now. I personally love that we are an ambitious and fast-moving company. This has meant a lot of new teams, projects, and opportunities for employees. It feels like a high-growth start-up. It also makes me more optimistic that we are positioning ourselves...

    Cons

With ambition and moving fast, we are willing to break things. That can be uncomfortable at times, so you have to be willing to be comfortable with uncomfortable. We say we offer food/drink in the microkitchen but the reality is people eat it so quickly that it is sometimes empty. The kegs of beer/cider is never out, so that sort of makes up for it.

    Advice to Management

You are well-positioned to be a major player in a large space. You have made some big bets that seem to be paying off. Don't get too confident. Play your hand smart. Be willing to show some patience and shift more focus to the long-term.

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I've worked at Porch for 3+ years and I am a completely different person now. I've learned so much from so many people over the years and I am grateful that my co-workers took the time to invest in me. There are so many selfless people that work here and they also happen to be some of the most intelligent folks I've ever met. I feel like I am getting paid to go back to school. I feel like the bar is really high, the...

    Cons

Most of what I would say is related to areas where I'm seeing improvement but they are still worth mentioning. It is a very ambiguous environment and not everyone can thrive in these circumstances. There aren't many formal development opportunities/paths and you really have to take control of your own future. Once you realize this and take ownership of yourself you can really grow here (this is true anywhere you work)....

    Advice to Management

Now that we are growing, offer the team additional development opportunities through development programs, mentorship, training, etc. Continue focusing on our customers, getting to know them, gaining empathy for them and truly solving their problems. Without them, we don't have anyone to serve and we can be great at serving them.

Love the people I work with. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful.

    Cons

If you cant roll with the punches. This place is not for you. The changes haven't bothered me though.

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I love working at Porch. In the past few years, I have seen us grow like crazy on a very bullish outlook, only to pivot, and then re-build on the basics. What has been great is how the company has transformed itself and come back out stronger and smarter. The engineering Org is composed of strong engineers who are passionate about technology, customers, and solving real-world problems. There’s a big emphasis on no...

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Porch is a great company to work as an engineer, as you will work in a fast-paced environment with lots of bleeding-edge technologies. As ICs, we are given a lot of autonomy and say in the technical direction of the company (both day-to-day and long-term). And thanks to a great CI/CD and logging/debugging toolset, build/deploy/rollback/debug is usually painless. A culture of testing and software craftsmanship means...

    Cons

Cross-department communication and planning has been a long-running problem, but has been improving. The food/snack situation is hit-or-miss (sometimes there's lots of food, sometimes there's almost nothing). Meeting culture is terrible, frankly (specifically in terms of logistics, see below).

    Advice to Management

To help improve the meeting culture, C-Suite/VPs/Directors need to set a better example to the rest of the company by starting meetings on time, ending meetings on time, and not stealing meeting rooms.

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Career: I've work for startups in the past where you have the ability to grow your career by wearing multiple hats at the company. This usually includes building web components, building services for the web to consume, then maybe some devops work to maintain the infrastructure to run in. At Porch, I've had the opportunity to 10x that by working in almost every part of the company. As long as you're engaged you will...

I have been working at Porch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Supportive and collaborative environment, employees held accountable, great benefits; insurance, vacation and great free snacks. Love the bi-monthly all company meetings where exciting new changes are introduced. Looking forward to going public.

    Cons

Need to be comfortable navigating through an ambiguous environment, but if you're entrepreneurial minded you'll do well.

    Advice to Management

Update the porch.com/about/team page as well as the atrium. Email all Porchies when employees move on and new ones join the team!
