I worked at Port Arthur Independent School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great colleagues and educators to work with. Everyone seems to want the best for the students and the school and worked very hard.

    Cons

Students can be challenging in behavior and low academic performance and you must whip them into shape. Parental support and participation is very low, almost nonexistent for several students.

    Advice to Management

Work on ways to get parents more involved and supportive, to back teachers and enforce studying, homework, respect and manners at home.

  6. "The pay is better then most, but depending on the campus it is a terrible district to work in."

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

If you are fortunate to work on one of the few campuses where management is fair and open, it is a decent place to work. The majority of my co-workers worked well together and we helped each other in various ways.

    Cons

District administration does not put the needs of the students first. They worry about giving a job to their cousin or other family members and not spending needed funds on teachers and support staff at the campus level.

    Advice to Management

Hire more teachers and paraprofessionals to bring down the classroom size. FIRE most of your district administration staff downtown.
