I worked at Port Townsend Paper (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A good place to practice a wide range of skills.

    Cons

Too many hours required to support the mill 24/7.

    Advice to Management

Try not to rotate so many people through so many positions.

I worked at Port Townsend Paper full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good teamwork and qualified engineers after onboarding and before layoff

    Cons

All engineers were short term, I was there for 3 yr and all others were reorganized out before me.

    Advice to Management

Focus on career incentives and results. Don't require Engineers to multi task over to AP...

    Pros

Has developed a complex grade mix as a means to fill the orders book. Senior operators have been there 25+ years and are a wealth of knowledge.

    Cons

Two "regimes" within management. 1) The guys who have been there 25+ years and 2) the guys who've been there less than 5 years. Seem to have differing opinions on how to run the operation, which has lead to a lot of friction within the ranks.

    Advice to Management

The friction within the ranks at the management level is very noticeable by the hourly employees on the floor. People question who to follow and hope that thier actions don't dawn criticism from one manager and praise from another.
