I have been working at Port of Los Angeles full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Aesthetics, benefits (Health, Dental, Life, Tuition-Reimbursement, Van Pool, & New Hire Boat ride), and easy commute.

    Cons

Management and executives are often clueless to anything that is not a warf or vessel related. Other than that it’s a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Promote awareness of equal opportunity employment for all regardless of their protected status.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Port of Los Angeles for less than a year

    Pros

The Port of LA is a great place for students to get experience while they are going to school. If you start as a Freshman, you can be employed for up to 6 years or until you graduate. Tons of exposure to both public administration and supply chain/port operations. Pay is great compared to most other internships, and coworkers become family!

    Cons

It's up to the student how much they want to get out of it. The more proactive you are, the more experience and networking you will get that will help you in your future career after college. Can be very slow at times.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Port of Los Angeles full-time

    Pros

They offer great benefits such as tuition reimbursement, union protection, and on going training. The port pantry and employees club are two great reasons to call the port home but I won't limit it to good food and great times. The van pools, gyms, basketball court, beautiful waterfront, and events keep everyone busy. It's a pretty small department in comparison to the revenue they bring in and amount of employees... per capita.

    Cons

Umm there's a lot to be worked on as far as employee moral and possibly better advertising the resources for employees. They're pretty much in line with the rest of the city benefit wise (outside of tuition reimbursement). I would love to see them take steps toward further enriching their employees in ALL departments.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
