    Excellent place to work

Mar 25, 2022 - Design Engineer in Seattle, WA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Excellent community and values at the Port. This makes it relatively easy to work here for an extended period of time without burnout. Also, the breadth of projects between the Seaport and Airport makes for a good environment for engineers who prefer regular exposure to new design challenges.

    Cons

Not the same niche experience you will get at most consulting firms. Also, engineers get fairly limited exposure to direct design on high-profile projects, tending to serve in more of a review capacity on large projects as the in-house group is relatively small.

    I feel lucky

    Mar 23, 2021 - Manager

    Pros

Unlike other government organizations, the Port operates more like a business. There is entrepreneurial hustle, good culture, smart colleagues and good compensation.

    Cons

The Port has a lot of folks with decades of tenure. It illustrates positive things that people want to stay that long, but there are colleagues who should retire. It has been too long.
