I worked at Portfolio Recovery (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've grown attached to the people I worked with. Built my team to be a family and always help one another and to run no different if I'm not there.

    Cons

Stressful environment, when mistakes were made as a manager they took money out of your bonus so there was no room for error at any given time which caused a lot of pressure on an individual. As a manager of your rep made a mistake it was your fault and an explanation was expected to be given from you not your rep who made the mistake. Each day working here you never knew what to expect no day was the same it was always something wrong happening. Management was always being held accountable for something someone else did doesn't matter who it was between the reps and upper management operations managers got blamed for everything. Most of the time when changes happened operations manager were the last to know which caused their reps to be the very last to know and it effected them the most. You were treated like a number instead of a human being, even when you did achieve goals that were set a "Good Job" was no where to be found but if a mistake was made than it was never forgotten about so that gave no motivation to the operations managers at all.

    Advice to Management

Treat the operations managers like they are people, don't hold them all responsible for 1 persons mistake or mischief.

I worked at Portfolio Recovery full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

excellent money and compensations as long as you do exactly what management demands and don't ask ANY questions. They profess to have an OPEN Door policy. Don't go thru that door, bc you will be walking out the door b4 you know it. Just drink the Kool-aid and make the good money and enjoy it while you can

    Cons

The job is great and the debtors aren't even the worse part when the they decide to blame you for the situation they have fallen into. Its when the management decides to lie and scheme to get ahead and use you. Tn is a work at will state so it doesn't matter what you do or say Upper management is always right-if they want to lie and say you did something PRA will back them 100% and you will be walked right out the door with no questions asked no mater how long you have been there.

    Advice to Management

Good luck there is always someone above you that can do the same thing to you. We all reap what we sow.

I worked at Portfolio Recovery full-time

    Pros

It's a job you walk into with false hopes of career advancement at the interview.

    Cons

No continual training. No grass roots meetings to identify, and work on solutions towards a better organization.

    Advice to Management

Work on keeping your employees rather than new infractions to impose on them.

I worked at Portfolio Recovery full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The cafe is pretty good and the people who work at the cafe are great! Might meet a few genuine people. Definitively gives insight as to the amount of work and amount of hours you DON'T want to have to put in week in and week out.

    Cons

Management only concerned for themselves, cliques, sweat-shop mentality, pay below median for the area and especially for the size and revenue of company causes many to leave, favoritism at levels never before seen, inappropriate behavior never addressed.

    Advice to Management

CARE about your employees, stop turning a blind eye to the REAL issues at hand and learn to treat people with respect.

    Pros

Benefits are good. Ability to work remotely is nice.

    Cons

Management is unwilling to listen to employees. They only care about their commissions. VERY secretive & willing to "cut corners" to get whatever they want, at the expense of employees.

    Advice to Management

Pay for performance, not just pretend to.

    Pros

A good environment to learn technology.

    Cons

Worst work life balance. Managers are highly unreasonable and office is full of politics from the higher management till the team managers and team members. Not a healthy office environment to work with.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees well and help them have a better work life balance and work on giving them a secured feeling instead of finding issues that are not even closely related to productivity or project.
