    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Portland Opera full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great Staff, feels like family. Great hours, amazing office location. Free tickets to Operas and sometimes broadway shows.

    Cons

They like to take advantage of loopholes. If you were hired as part time temporary, don't expect that to change even if you have worked there for 5 years and work more than full time hours

    Advice to Management

Don't take advantage of your hard working employees. Show them they are appreciated. Stop with the upstairs/downstairs employee hierarchy. Every employee is just as important to the success of the company.

I worked at Portland Opera part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Portland Opera is a fun place to work. You will receive free tickets to every opera and the holiday party is a lot of fun.

    Cons

The pay isn't great. It's minimum wage and the rest of the PO staff doesn't treat the telemarketing team well or with much respect. But the manager is great.

    I worked at Portland Opera

    Pros

The Opera is a special place, in the business of creating magic onstage. The stark realities of the business world create unique challenges and opportunities for those who work there, and the camaraderie and sense of family in the group is truly unique in the business world.

    Cons

Budgetary constraints and the demands of an economy in financial free-fall have taken a severe toll on the company's staff. One-sixth of the Company were laid off in April 2011, and several positions eliminated or consolidated. The Arts tend to suffer in a tough economy.
