    I worked at Portware L L C full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Smart, friendly, helpful people, pleasant work environment, engaging product offerings and a very forward-looking firm. As an execution management system they are hands down the best and most progressive in the industry.

    Cons

The AM role is way too much of a catch-all for a wide range of responsibilities that, in addition to project management & product deployment spans in-depth configuration, production support, quality assurance and basic fix connectivity. Too often AMs are held responsible for responsibilities that really belong to and should be fully managed by other groups. These issues have been raised from time to time over...

    Advice to Management

Portware has been in existence for nearly 20 years but in too many ways still functions like the start-up they used to be. In particular the AM role needs a more focused definition with a more narrow and specific set of responsibilities. To that end, other groups need to be held more accountable for their work. This has been a problem for too long and any change toward improvement has either been too slow or not followed...

I have been working at Portware L L C full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-You get a $9.51 spending limit on food everyday -Since company was purchased by FactSet most of the FactSet benefits apply to employees -401k company match -Health insurance and dental (kind of pricey) -Pay is ok

    Cons

    - There aren't any women here, maybe 2 women in the entire NY office. - If you are young you won't find much interest in these people. They are all old and married and have kids. -It's a super boring company, nothing exciting in the office -The common areas are dirty and bathrooms smell bad - The secretary that puts out snacks puts only a few snacks, they should be available all day long so anyone can grab a snack...

    Advice to Management

The merge between the 2 companies should be visible by now it's been awhile. Try to incorporate more of Factset into the company- as they are one of the best companies to work for.

    I worked at Portware L L C full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    1. Talented workers - very smart, great support staff (customer facing support). 2. They frequently held monthly morale boosting events 3. Good selection of inner office refreshments - coffee, drinks, etc 4. Positive outlook amongst management for the future of the company

    Cons

    1. Unhealthy Company Culture evidenced by dirty common areas and lack of communication between teams & individuals 2. Teams within the company are very segregated (acquired products/companies need to be merged) 3. No 401k matching, bonuses very volatile - do not count on them. 4. Communication is challenging when working with teams in USA and INDIA, expect hurdles and delays.

    Advice to Management

    1. Transparency is a good thing. 2. Stop using different procedures & practices for different products within the company - it can be daunting for newer employees to take ownership of anything. 3. Communicate growth opportunities or needs of the company to your people. 4. Allow for more flexibility in work/life balance, scheduled working hours, working from home, etc.

I have been working at Portware L L C full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The working environment and culture is the best I have seen so far for a company this size. Management really looks out to ensure the cultural health of the company is good and think of their employees to boost morale. There are also various types of clients whom use Portware, so there is no monotony to the work being done and exposure to technologies. Every Portware implementation and client is different, hence one will...

    Cons

As with any vendor, one needs to understand that there will always be pressure to deliver and be there for the client. So there are times when it seems like there are not enough resources to pull through and more has to be done at times to ensure timelines are met.

    Advice to Management

Consider the need for better time management balanced with resource management when signing on clients.
