I have been working at Potbelly Sandwich Works full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Pay is pretty good. Not too many complaints from customers.

    Cons

High stress at times. Understaffing and call-offs are an issue. Some district managers are not good and don't deserve to be in their positions.

I worked at Potbelly Sandwich Works full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

The culture of potbelly has severely changed. Although they continue to promote the same culture, it just isnt the same. It used to be an enjoyable environment where you can learn and grow but its turning into a job all about numbers. Not fun at all.

    Cons

I'm glad I got hired when I did and got the experience I did and got out when I did. It's like slave labor now! False promises, promting people who aren't ready, hiring bad external people and scared to fire the bad people because itll effect the numbers.

I have been working at Potbelly Sandwich Works full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

401k match is good, pay is not bad but they expect you to do “EVERYTHING”

    Cons

They will work you to death, always short on shift leads and money is the most important thing, they stopped caring about their people long time ago.

    Advice to Management

Just like they get back to you when your inventory, labor or sales are not good they should ask you too when you work so many hours and find out if you need help or why are you working so many hours.

I worked at Potbelly Sandwich Works full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Job stability, easy to move up, solid hours, great set of company values.

    Cons

As a company, Potbelly has yet to find it's identity. Once they know what they really want to do then they can develop their staff appropriately. No accountability. Overworked and underpaid General Managers across the board. No work/life balance AT ALL.

    Advice to Management

Don't expect the world from teenage employees that who minimum wage who you also don't train fully.

I worked at Potbelly Sandwich Works full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

The people can be cool, a little unethical, they get a lot of pressure from higher ups to do whatever it takes to hit numbers, so I saw GM's basically "fluff" their results to make their numbers look better, but you know, thats what the people in corporate demand sooo thats what they get. Fake results. They also get a stock thats price can't seem to climb past $13 on a good day and they also get to report lose revenue...

    Cons

Some of the worse employees on the planet, you cannot depend on people to ever be on time to work, or even show up. They legitimately expect the GM's to work 100 plus hours to hit numbers. The GM's that aren't working that much but are hitting their numbers are not exactly acheiving them, they are changing them. They also have very low standards around cleanliness , their stores are sooooooo dirty. I wouldn't even recommend...

    Cons

Long days, unreasonable labor goals, free shake days

    Advice to Management

Assist DMs and GMs with recruiting, hire and train more skilled managers to build a bench

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Potbelly Sandwich Works full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

As a GM, you will get to write your own schedule (but plan on working nights and weekends), you receive a bonus every quarter (but dependent on variables that are not always in your control), lots of training. You can gain a lot of experience and knowledge here, but you may have to break your back to get it.

    Cons

Inconsistent delivery on messages. They preach about people and positivity, but support can be very hard to come by. If you do not have a conventional store, it is very hard to make the grade for bonus and scorecard results.

    Advice to Management

This year was supposed to be about slowing down to improve, yet no changes have been made that affect those of us on the floor everday.
