I worked at Pottermore full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Looks good on CV. Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Bully and robotic management. Tough legal department - each new release was taking ages. Very long release process that was non reversible and was breaking all the time. No career prospects whatsoever. Pretending to be agile; deep down it was nothing other than very old school banking mentality. Finger pointing and no sense of humour. Too much stress for nothing, making mountains out of molehills. Self importance...

    Advice to Management

Make small measurable changes constantly to keep staff engaged. Being a brand is not always enough. Be proud for the right reasons. Be polite. It pays off,

I worked at Pottermore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good office location and good "brand" to have on your cv

    Cons

Working at Pottermore has been a nightmare. Disorganisation, lack of competence, ignorance is what you will find. A company that barely survives only thanks to a brand. No creativity, no understanding of the market's requirements. Just terrible. Also despicable that they have been adding fake reviews here to try and improve the score. All the positive comments are a poor tentative to try and look decent after so...

    Pros

Not many pros really other than the great people who work here (most of) Working for the Harry Potter brand (well at least telling other people you do)

    Cons

Management team are a shambles and literally have no idea what they are doing Faux American corporate culture CEO bullying Zero career progression Terrible Pay HR determined to post fake positive reviews on here Lots of the talented staff have already been forced out

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff fairy Stop with this faux corporate culture

I have been working at Pottermore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

No company is perfect, but what really matters is how hard they try and what they inspire to. The culture at Pottermore has changed hugely for the better in the time that I have worked there, and I have no doubt will continue to do so. Harry Potter is a phenomenon for which an incredible number of people have tremendous devotion and affection, so working at Pottermore provides the opportunity to work on a brand...

    Cons

With a responsibility to one of the most dedicated fan communities in the world, it can be fraught and challenging, and occasionally seem daunting, but that's part of what also makes it a strong challenge. It's a small company, so if you want to be spoonfed, or to avoid accountability it's not the place for you. The team has grown rapidly in the past year, and a lot of new faces can sometimes mean a bit of a...

I have been working at Pottermore

    Pros

The people who work here are both kind and brilliant - which is a very tough combination to find. The culture is absolutely set by the CEO, who is inspiring, formidable, and open. The editorial, marketing and social media teams are extremely talented, and there's generally a great dedication to nurturing imagination, creativity, and new talent. And there's a really nice social vibe too - book clubs, boot camps (which...

    Cons

Nah. I can't really think of anything, to be honest.

    Advice to Management

The challenge ongoing will just be to gracefully manage the rapidly growing success and size of the business. That kind of massive transition can be a really delicate, chaotic time -- but as long as there are strong, brilliant people in leadership positions and loyal, brilliant people in creative positions, that's totally doable. I have faith we'll be juuuuuust fine. More than fine. Amazing.

I worked at Pottermore full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice modern office in a decent location. Free biscuits. Harry Potter artwork everywhere.

    Cons

Communication and senior management in this company is the worst I've known. There isn't a cohesive plan of work from top down. Trying to get information from anyone is like trying to get blood out of a stone. Maybe because no one actually has a clue what the ask is and has just delegated the work on in the hope someone else will either take the blame for bad delivery, or is able to take a lucky guess as to what is...

    Advice to Management

If the company is to improve, senior management need to actually come up with a detailed plan and start leading like they're supposed to. Not just delegate. It also helps if you understand and properly communicate the role you are recruiting for. Saves a lot of people's time in the long run.

I have been working at Pottermore

    Pros

Working here means you deal with a brand that was incredibly successful and has a special place in the hearts of those whose teenage years involved Harry Potter books and films. Also trendy wooden floors, free coffee and bread, plus offices in great location

    Cons

The senior management can't devise a strategy for toffee, so have bought in an army of overpaid mercenary consultants, who are laughing all the way to the bank. However, whilst taking the money, none of them have come up with a plausible strategy as to how to revitalise an ageing brand (answer - you can't, the kids are over it). The minions at Pottermore by contrast are unhappy and ignored. Their views are not invited...

    Advice to Management

Keep on taking the money, but maybe think (1) that your spending someone else's money, and (2) the little guys in the office, on the payroll putting the hours in, week in, week out - these guys are the ones you can trust.

I worked at Pottermore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lovely, central office Mid-junior level colleagues were fantastic Getting to work on the Harry Potter brand (a dream come true for Potter fans)

    Cons

Bad senior management with no structure in place to support mid-junior employees for any personal and professional growth and legitimate grievances. A number of management hadn't even read all the source materials they were supposed to be selling but would constantly question those who had in frankly, a rude, unprofessional manner. No one listened to the people they brought in to do their jobs, which over little time,...
