I worked at Powell Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of friendly people to work alongside from a large melting pot of nations. Not too much else.

    Cons

The pay and subsequent "raises" are a joke. Favoritism and nepotism are rampant. There are way too many "bosses" on the factory floor while the actual "management" is rather incompetent. The companies' commitment to safety is merely lip service. There usually has to be a catastrophic event in order to get any action.

    Advice to Management

You might get better effort and quality from floor workers if you paid them a more competitive wage. Upper factory management needs to be given walking papers. Hire some managers that have a knowledge of the product and the way it is produced, not a bunch of tough talkers that only know how to micro manage and crack the whip in order to satiate their machismo.

I have been working at Powell Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Almost everyone working there is friendly. Different cultures all around the warehouse. Pretty easy job depending on position. Alot of overtime at times and 3 shifts to choose. Huge variety of benefits to choose from, but no, health insurance is not free.

    Cons

Low starting pay with horrible raises. You get 1%-3% of your hourly pay as a raise after one year, with 1% being not satisfactory and 3% meaning you're the excellent worker. What this means is that the usual raise will be about $0.20 per year. Overtime with lots of hours usually lasts all of fall-winter, and ends during spring-summer. Checks received with overtime are decent, while the 40hour paychecks are tear-inducing.

    Advice to Management

Pay your workers better and give them better raises. What good does giving a hard working employee 20 cents more than the lazy employee do?

    I worked at Powell Industries

    Pros

Management doesn't pressure you too much, they mainly want to see a quality product produced. They are also easy to approach if you have a question about what you're working on or if you want to give constructive feedback.

    Cons

There could sometimes be more communication between departments. The temporary employees would get no warning when they're services would no longer be needed, even after telling some of them that they would be hired on after their first 90 days.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more communication between the engineering and assembly departments and let your temp workers no ahead of time if they are going to be let go.
