I worked at Powell Industries full-time

    Pros

Powell tries very hard to do the right thing, whether it is benefits for their employees or looking forward to the health of the company.

    Cons

The impact of the oil & gas industry has impacted the company greatly, which impacts R&D to stay competitive and the workforce. The management team has a big job ahead of them.

    Advice to Management

Powell is not the best, like other companies, to keep their employees abreast of the health of the company.

    Invest in your employees.

    Pros

Flexible hours; great environment; good people to work with

    Cons

No raise in salary; Going no where; they care for management and shareholders but do not care about regular employees; keep cutting benefits, laying people off

    Advice to Management

You should care about lower- and mid-level employees not just management and shareholders. I was working there for about a year and there was no potential of a raise.

    Weak senior management.
Good ole boy system it is not what you know but who you know.

    Advice to Management

Promote and hire people for what they know not who they know.

    Pros

Excellent Research and Development Department, Family oriented, excellent on-the-job training for skilled operators, gives out yearly bonuses, safety oriented, good benefits package, very diverse workforce

    Cons

Low pay for skilled workers, personality- not performance oriented, have to be a member of the good-old boy network to get ahead, some managers resistant to change

    Advice to Management

Be more open to change, work on quality issues, increase safety department staff, offer more opportunities for upward mobility

This is a jump off company, you come here to learn different aspects of working in a manufacturing setting. A huge atmosphere of safety.

    Cons

Pay scale is horrible, growth is abysmal, and the bosses micro-manage.

    Cons

The management and supervisors have totally screwed the place up. Now alot of people have been layed off and now they are playing supervision

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Great benefits-medical, vision, dental, 401k, good diversity of people, everyone is friendly. Can always move up within as opportunities open.

    Cons

Small raises or none at all. Some people micro manage. I've seen some bad business decisions that were supposed to help with cost efficiency but did the complete opposite.
