I worked at Power Packaging full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are great and starting to align in purpose. Numerous opportunities to engage in the business and make an impact. Power Packaging is owned ultimately by DHL so there are a ton of growth opportunities.

    Cons

Long hours. A bit disjointed with production, quality, materials, and maintenance teams struggling to operate outside of their silos. Constantly operating in a status of controlled chaos.

    Advice to Management

Corporate would do well to understand the needs of each plant and the managers that work to make each successful. Lack of stability and resources are two of the biggest challenges each plant faces. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money and that doesn't just apply to machines.

    Cons

    Corporate owner involvement. Sometimes shortsighted.

I worked at Power Packaging full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Hourly gets plenty of OT.

    Cons

Almost zero chance of advancement past the supervisor level. Standard work week is 6.5 days a week, yet this facility has not been profitable for more than a year. Plenty of OT for hourly, but salaried people get screwed. Management can't see the big picture. Does not value new ideas. Plenty of incompetence to go around. Culture of "This is the way we've always done things". Management also does not value employees as people....only as worker bees. Does not properly maintain equipment and has the safety record to show for it.

    Advice to Management

Cut the dead weight. Seek out new ideas and ways of doing things. Don't be afraid to try new ideas.

I worked at Power Packaging full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management is relatively friendly and they make a concerted effort to receive employee feedback and provide recognition, in fact they excel in that department. Clean professional work environment and management selected for ability. There are a lot of nice people working here and they'll push you to do your best. I consider it unfortunate that I encountered the circumstances I did and still consider this a relatively decent company.

    Cons

Safety regulations were shoddy when I worked there, they have very low ceilings on their equipment and I received a concussion at one point, actually was fired because they were worried I'd sue them over it and were scared of liability (I'm not that kind of person).

As with many companies of this nature there are a number of illegal immigrants at the plant and you'll have trouble communicating if you don't speak Spanish. Management tends to look the other way on this issue as with many such factories.

    Advice to Management

Need to improve safety regulations and be less hasty to assume about others' intentions.

I worked at Power Packaging full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people to work with in general with challenging, fulfilling work that contributes to GDP.

    Cons

Long hours, lower than market value pay scales, and mid-level management intimidation of subordinates.

    Advice to Management

Oversee mid-level management leading styles and be more proactive mentoring them to treat associates appropriately and professionally. If that fails, cut them loose and end corporate welfare.

    Pros

the people were fun to face the challenges with and there were many to be faced. Always something new to experience.
