    Pros

Great colleagues who care. Wonderful work/life balance. Lots of Paid time off. Especially during summer. College is closed on Fridays.

    Cons

Not so great pay. Career could be stagnant for a while especially in grant-funded positions

    Advice to Management

There should be more opportunity and faster track for growth for grant-funded positions.

I worked at Prairie State College full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    1. Unions protect against retaliation from managers. hmm 2. Talented and educated group of workers. 3. SURS (pension) - though its hard to live off of 65% of nothing

    Cons

    1. Philosophy: That's the way it has always been done. 2. They don't disclose the salary until they offer the job (don't try to look at other colleges, they pay much less) 3. No growth opportunity

    Advice to Management

If you were hired to Manage, take advantage of the professional development opportunities, enhance your skills, learn customer service, be a real leader and stop feeling threatened by your younger smarter workers.

I worked at Prairie State College part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Inviting environment. Students are motivated to learn. Staff is friendly.

    Cons

Daytime hours are always in demand.

    Advice to Management

My boss writes many grants and she usually is awarded them for new positions, however, she needs to advocate more for new part-time employees to get daytime working hours.

I have been working at Prairie State College full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexibility with life/work balance, ability to work off your student loans, summer Fridays and a week paid off for Christmas

    Cons

Nepotism, if you are not hand picked to work here you have your work cut out for you. They will move you around, lie and make you miserable so that you would quit and they don't have to pay unemployment or give a severance package. Upper management turns a blind eye because they are all friends and hire unqualified people into management positions and pay them more than they budget for.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and see what your decisions are doing to people, you're wasting time fighting lawsuits and over looking good internal employees and shoving them out because of other's egos, insecurities etc.
