I have been working at Prairie View A&M part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoy serving the student body at Prairie View A&M University as a Physics TA.
This gives me the chance to practice my leadership and oratory skills.

    Cons

Working with students can be challenging at times; because they are likely to showcase their frustrations and lack of patience during lab sessions.
However, my co-workers and my superiors at the Physics Department are reasonable people to work with.

    Advice to Management

Could use more structure and speed when it comes processing of employee documentation.

I have been working at Prairie View A&M full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is no benefit to working here. The frustration/waste outweighs the positives DAILY!

    Cons

poor system run entirely on internal politics. If you are related to some administrator, you can do whatever you want. If not, you will be tracked and traced for every move you make, everyone awaiting 1 minor mistake. If you are not African-American AND male, there is no hope for advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house and start over!

I have been working at Prairie View A&M full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A great place to start off and get experience. There are a lot of dedicated employees that goes above and beyond their job description. Benefits are the best I've ever had plus there are tons of days off built into your work calendar.

    Cons

You have to be apart of a "clique" in order for you to advance. I've seen some people work their butts off and never get a promotion. Some people have been in their position for 10+ years with no promotion. The pay is pretty low for your position, plus you have more duties then your actual "Role." Alot of interdepartmental communication issues,

    Advice to Management

Develop a unified front. if there is turmoil at the SVP levels, all that's going to do is filter down into the departments. Pay your employees what their are worth!!

I worked at Prairie View A&M part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

driving distance from west - no traffic and making a difference in the lives of students

    Cons

Management - HR not well organized - in 2016 assigned HR person did not know the difference in an ORP and TRS. This mistake cost me 2.5 months of access to my TRS retirement. Not acceptable and attempted to place the blame on me. Never acceptable

    Advice to Management

Please review the hiring of the chairs per semester. Also careful to observe if a department begins to be occupied with a large % of a particular nationality. I was not offered classes for spring 2017 but 2 new people got offered classes. There should never be a deletion of experience as we are educating our students to be proficient in STEM. Very disappointed in management of math department
