    Cons

Group is not run to encourage upward mobility or pay for performance on an even level among all employees.

    Advice to Management

Short term goals and meeting budgets will cost your reputation in the long run, as the list of disgruntled employees grows.

    Pros

Good benefit packages. It's a global company so the economy doesn't affect it as bad as it does to the smaller companies.

    Cons

The amount of drivers for the amount of loads that need to be delivered aren't enough. When a driver is out, everyone gets backed up. It is not legal to make a person work over time though in this job you don't have a choice. Not organized.

    Advice to Management

Try to spread out the work loads evenly or hire one more person. Try to understand employees have a personal life too.

They need to please learn how to manage. They mix too much personal with business, they play favoritism with certain employee while exploiting others.

I have been working at Praxair full-time

    Pros

The company has a very stable business model. There are not alot of ups and downs compared to other businesses.

There are great long term employees in the organization that care about each other and what they do. They are passionate about the company and its success: "Living the Brand".

There is opportunity to travel to the many locations of the plant sites, as well as international travel.

Time is flexible based on your manager. While there is always the potential to get a micro-manager, clock-watching is not the norm. You end up working more than your fair share of hours anyway.

The company will sponsor international employees, which is more limited with other companies. Just expect the process to take the maximum amount of time possible.

Assuming you are accepted, and are technically sharp and flexible, there is opportunity to shine within the organization. Currently, however, "acceptance" is based on your ability to play along and not challenge management.

    Cons

The plant sites are minimally staffed, with all of the support coming from central groups either in Tonawanda, NY or The Woodlands, TX. Technical support and guidance for young engineers at the plants is limited.

The plant managers are ultimately held accountable for the performance of the plants. Priority setting for the central groups is flawed, and many times the plant staff ends up on their own.

Administrative staff is non-existent at the plants, so engineers are left to handle the tasks in addition to troubleshooting, optimization, and new projects for the plant.

While integrity is talked about as a value, there are unethical situations that are tolerated. People are very aware of these situations which ultimately results in a hefty amount of skepticism of management and HR. People are afraid to bring anything forward due to fear of retaliation.

Currently, people are chosen for roles based on the "buddy" system, and the top technical people are either leaving the company or getting pushed out of HYCO operations.

All of the above results in a high turnover rate, which is not really talked about, and appears to be ignored, thus putting additional strain on us that want to stay in hopes that the organization can get back to normal.

    Advice to Management

Look at the changes you have made over the last couple of years in HYCO which have taken the group off course. Changes need to be made quickly to get the organization back on track before we lose more people and the performance of the organization declines further.

I worked at Praxair full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was average, as were the benefits. You do get to learn a good deal about other industries. Employees include some very highly regarded technical people.

    Cons

All divisions of the company are not integrated--you often feel like you are working with a completely different company when you are really under the same umbrella. If you are not an engineer, they company views you differently, both in compensation and respect.

    Advice to Management

I always learned that part of management was to not only run an operation but also develop employees. If you do not invest time or energy into developing your employees, you certainly will not receive a return on an investment in the future. Employee career development is almost non-existent.
