I worked at Praxair (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great industry albeit times are difficult at present and very lean organization. Smart People, challenging work and learning opportunities, keen focus on basic blocking and tackling in everything that is done.

    Cons

As with many organizations it is very lean and intent on staying that way or becoming more so, which is a challenge to work-life balance. Benefits and pay are average at best, which is the target.

I have been working at Praxair (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment, helpful coworkers, opportunities for company mobility and promotions many company activities and learning opportunities through company website and classes.

    Cons

Not always very encouraging, sometimes more concerned with receiving credit for work instead of creating a better product, rarely engaging, tends toward either assigning tasks you are not qualified for or tasks you are overqualified for.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee recognition of success, allow employees to review their management or voice complaints more frequently and create an environment where employees feel like their work makes a difference and is important.

I worked at Praxair full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are awesome. Every one cares about each other. Can be really fun and challenging at times. Everyday is different.

    Cons

The hours. 247 operation on a rotating schedule. It's rough on home life and social life. Weekends and holidays if you haven't been there 10 years expect to work them.

    Advice to Management

Work out a better schedule. It's why people leave. There is no incentive to stay. Really no where to move up or advance. No bonus for the people trying to make trips efficient so save the company money! The little guys need help too!

    Pros

Great people at the Tonawanda plant, this internship has taught me a lot about engineering in the real world and the daily life of one. Definitely recommend!

    Cons

Sometimes the work that the interns do is a bit tedious and more like book keeping, however, in the end it was still a great experienece

    Advice to Management

I guess I would say maybe to get the interns a little more involved in the hands on engineering rather than some other type of work, like spreadsheets and documentation...ect.
