    Cons

They try to keep the work life balance even, but rarely are able to more than the two weeks at the beginning of a month.

I have been working at Praxair full-time

    Pros

Line management is dedicated, knowledgeable and professional from my experience. However, tuition reimbursement, legal insurance, vacation day allotment for time of service is very fair.

    Cons

Regional Management changes often resulting in confusion in direction. Health insurance is poor coverage for its price and salary is on the very low end of the market.

    Advice to Management

Please improve health coverage and direct compensation.

    Pros

Good people, steady pay & benefits, long career if you perform and are willing to work in Danbury for a period of time, exposure to a variety of industries

    Cons

Rampant bureaucracy, Promotions to senior positions based on who you know, Must be willing to "sacrifice" for the company (ie, move where they tell you) to be considered for senior positions, CEO comments that too many employees are getting stock options, Run by the legal group.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees for performance, Hire new employees and develop the bench

    Pros

    Nice people and innovative company.

    Cons

Lack of progressive leadership at the Ankeny facility. Too much work put on too few employees.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees who work hard with more than just "jeans days" as employees realize that is a way to avoid spending money on them.

I have been working at Praxair full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very smart people on the technical side, many subject experts
The company performs well financially in the market due to contracting and pricing practice - very good at weathering industry changes

    Cons

    Not very innovative
Locations aren't the greatest depending on what you do
    Culture is very old school
Pay is just ok - if you have any skill you can get more somewhere else

    Advice to Management

Our company is technologically behind, get with the times or be left behind. Also diversity in recruiting would help improve the company culture.

I have been working at Praxair full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A financially solid company. Considering their mechanical approach to business they have a financially successful future.

    Cons

You will never be part of a family. There is a great amount of tension between sales and operations. The ops people are always on the defensive and the sales people are an arrogant group of people who are always on the attack. Upper management seems to condone the tense environment. Whenever they get a good upper level manager, they let him go when there are opportunities for cutbacks. If you are labor or management, don't plan on any loyalty from the company.

    Advice to Management

Be loyal and respectful to your employees. In todays corporate environment, try to be human beings and not be so quick to get of of your talent.

I worked at Praxair full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Management was friendly and approachable.
    Benefits started immediately.
    Opportunities to advance and/or relocate.
Reasonable pay - with shift differential.
    2 weeks vacation to start.

    Cons

Monotonous job tasks, very little if any cross-training.
Very large company, constraining bureaucracy leaves employees unable to adapt to frequently changing circumstances.
Dumped A LOT on lower paid employees and regularly asked them to stay late and work weekends.
Very limited work area available to handle and organize incoming and outgoing product was a constant source of stress and aggravation...and safety hazards given you are handling heavy objects containing high pressure gases including flammables and poisons.

That said, management at this location does ok with what they are tasked with doing. Several of the cons listed are likely endemic to grindy large scale industrial production operations. Overall, this job and environment just wasn't right for me.

    Advice to Management

This location appears to have bitten off much more than it can safely chew. Put thought into running a leaner more efficient operation. That would go a long way in helping to decrease safety hazards, job stress, and turnover.

    Pros

Decent pay and working with the drivers made it enjoyable.

    Cons

If you are not an engineer or have plant operations experience, there is zero promotional opportunity. Big disconnect between upper management and field management. Productivity always trumps safety. Benefits are below average for such a large company.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the office and see what goes on in the field.
