I have been working at Praxair full-time

    Pros

Excellent hourly/miles pay plan but it varies by region.

Excellent benefits with 401K and pension plan.

Generous vacation time, flex time and floating holidays.

    Great training.

Room for advacement (office/plant personnel only).

    Cons

Lack of support and knowledge. You are given certain numbers to call in case of any issue but nobody knows anything, it takes multiple call transfers and long wait times to get to someone who can help solve the issue.

No work/life balance. You will breathe, eat and dream Praxair.

Drivers are expected to maximize their 70 hour work week...and then some.

Management and dispatch has very little to virtually no knowledge of DOT and FMCSA rules and will at times try to push you to do things that would be against such rules. It's a constant battle that is obnoxious.

Driver wellness and fatigue is a big issue that is never addressed.

    Safe...Productivity, Productivity, Productivity.

Driving is a dead end job.

    Advice to Management

Drivers are the backbone of any transportation operation and driving a truck is one of the most if not THE most stressful job in the company. Show more appreciation for them, not just 1 week a year. Drivers are a diverse force of experienced and even educated individuals, some even with college degrees, listen to them when there is an issue and when they try to share new ideas for improvement, do not undermine their abilities. Drivers are the face of the company when servicing the customer and driving in the highway. Instruct distribution management in the rules of FMCSA.

I have been working at Praxair full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee retention, development and career opportunities.

    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The relationships that I developed working there. The compensation for the position is average for the market.

    Cons

Expectations and goals aren't realistic for the role. Price increases and forcing contracts on customers. No ability to lower pricing for long term customers without contract.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to take care of current customers as well as new business growth. "Reduce The Churn" once a customer leaves due to pricing or other concerns they position loss of use on cylinders. Management tries to bill over market to retain customers. It's very difficult to pick up an account from competition and management thinks everyone should buy from "Praxair" just by its name. As they continue to lose large customers hopefully they change their strategies.

    Supported by upper management

    Stressful environment
    Long hours
Minimal training presented to you, you must seek it out or figure it out on your own
Poor IT support due to the management of the department/ it is viewed as a cost center

    Advice to Management

Invest in your IT as a support of your rev. generating areas, and not just a cost center. Train and develop the technical skills of this team..

    Pros

Work life balance is very good. Salary is good. They improved the vacation time allotted. Good insurance for what you pay for.

    Cons

The turnover was way to high in this job. Upper management did not offer any direction or too busy to help. It felt as if it was sink or swim.

    Advice to Management

Train territory managers better and stay more involved. Don't just call when you have time.
