I worked at Praxair full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Competitive and above average salaries and benefits in the chemicals manufacturing space for senior and experienced hires with specific industry skills. Stable business serving diversified industry markets. Strong safety and work ethics culture with good people and working environment.

    Cons

Relatively flat organization so career development options typically plateau except for the few on a management track. Limited technical advancement opportunities for entry or mid-level staff. Employees are responsible for own career development; there are few authentic mentors.

    Advice to Management

Focus on and strengthen the programs for employee development, career opportunities, diversity and sustainability to build upon the company's employee resource base. There is too much short-term focus and response to share price; a more creative vision and long-term growth strategy would better serve the company.

    Pros

Strong company culture pushed by upper management
    Seeks diversity
People are kind and generally easy to get along with if you are honest and fair
Usually a fair bonus for salaried employees (2-8%, depending on business and safety performance)
Small sites give you lots of opportunities to shine

    Cons

Many small sites can give the impression of being on an island - Gulf coast hydrogen plants are close, but everything else is spread way out.
Small sites can also mean wearing lots of hats, and sometimes lots of paperwork
HR is very slow to respond (currently)

    Pros

    Advice to Management

Engineering managers are typically not good at the HR side of things. If you end up with a boss that isn't good at it you really have to be a self-starter to improve and expand your abilities.
